Reviewed Using 18+ Adults Only Patch

Overview

Sometimes when picking up a game the title doesn’t really give away too much about what the player might expect. That isn’t really the case when it comes to a number of visual novels however especially erotic ones especially since they have begun following the trend of ridiculously long names and Milk Factory’s OPPAI Academy Big, Bouncy, Booby Babes! is about as open as you can get. Coming in as the latest entry from Frontwing USA’s English localization wing, is this nukige/sex focused game worth picking up?

Story

Players take on the role of Takumi Kazuya (who can have their last name changed at the start) who is a struggling light novel author. One day while admiring the fact that he has finished writing a grand erotic light novel that will surely impress the harsh critics that have bashed his previous works, his younger sister, who also happens to be an erotic manga artist, threatens to kick him out of the bath since he’s been in there for hours. In an effort to kick him out, the younger sister cranks the thermostat up to the maximum, breaking it in the process and causing a sudden explosion.

As Takumi’s life flashes before his eyes, he awakens in a new luxurious open air bath filled with gorgeous naked women, all of whom have gigantic breasts. After their initial shock wears off, Takumi immediately faces another brush with death as they begin to blast away at him with magic. This marks the first time Takumi meets with the ten main girls in the game all before being enrolled into Yggdrasil Girls’ Magical Academy as its first male student thanks to his special “ero-magic” powers that awoke upon arriving in the world. As one would expect given the setting, it isn’t long before every girl, their mothers, and even some side characters end up in Takumi’s crosshairs.

Despite being set in a fantasy world where magic exists and there happens to be mentions of plenty of combat with the female characters and even Takumi helping battle against a few enemies during class, that fantasy element is mostly used as a window dressing for the core content of the game, the sex that will be happening with over twenty different characters. Every chapter, or selected interaction with a character, features Takumi either using one of his already obtained Ero-Magic spells or unleashing a new one to have sex with one of his classmates.

These come in a variety of forms that range from simply making clothes vanish, transforming into objects, taking control of objects, increasing sensitivity, teleporting to an already horny classmate, straight up triggering lactation, making a character take a lewd pose on purpose, and much more giving players plenty of scene variety even if there is a certain lack of harder fantasy for most of the character races.

This does mean that there really isn’t a whole lot of set-up to most of the sex scenes in the game with the only real build-up actually happening during the chapter specific ones. The scenes that play out by selecting a character during intermission are given the briefest of narrative before everything goes down with there being only a small amount of development, if any, between Takumi and the girl he is sleeping with. That being said, the mother and daughter threesome scenes and group scenes that players unlock as they make their way through the game are immediately jumped into with no forethought and, in at least a few occasions, are shockingly short when compared to how long most of the sex scenes in OPPAI Academy actually are.

One of the better elements of how the scenes play out in this game is just how long most of them go on for. There is something to be said for longevity and this game goes the extra mile to make sure that, outside of the few scenes mentioned before, most scenes play out for quite a while for an eroge such as this with there often being multiple poses for a scene. It is also worth noting that while there is a bit of forceful intercourse, as well as some tentacle scenes, violent happens in OPPAI Academy and most of the sexual scenes are actually quite standard outside of featuring quite a lot of body fluids, including both breast milk from all but a couple girls and urine in a number of cases.

As for the actual main characters, players will find an assortment of both standard and fantasy races that they will be interacting with. Of course this features the stereotypical childhood friend that ended up being a witch and is now living in this alternate world, a shy succubus, a dragon that Takumi happened to tend to when it was injured and taking on the appearance of a bird when he was a child, and even a homunculus that was oddly created for his protection that looks shockingly familiar to a certain Fate character.

It is also worth noting that while some fantasy elements are taken advantage of, players expecting some more monster elements from the characters will be disappointed, especially in the case of the dragon girl who, outside of one outfit, looks like a normal human in every regard. We mentioned earlier that these characters are given barely any development from scene to scene and that often remains the case even throughout a character’s entire story to the point that, outside of one instance, there are no individual endings. Instead players will find that OPPAI Academy offers two different type of harem endings, which works well enough but also doesn’t really offer much in the way of a conclusion to the story in any shape or form.

Gameplay

While it is true that OPPAI Academy is still a visual novel, it is also one that players really won’t be interacting with much. While the standard features are there such as being able to click and read through the story as well as go back through the dialogue log, there are no dialogue choices to be made here. Instead players will find that they will have four choices to interact with the ten main female characters between chapters with any side characters or extra scenes not counting against this number. This means that players can even unlock one of three endings early if they choose characters in a certain fashion though it is also worth noting that most side characters will not be unlocked until the story has progressed further.

Outside of this OPPAI Academy features the standard elements of giving players a gallery mode where they can revisit the various sex scenes and CGs as well as a number of animated images that they have unlocked as well as replay through scenes that may have been a favorite of theirs.

Visuals & Audio

Immediately upon beginning the game players will note that Milk Factory has put a lot of attention into making sure the artwork in OPPAI Academy is as gorgeous as possible. Every character in the game, from the side characters that only make an appearance in a single scene, to the main characters that players will be interacting with both inside of core storyline as well as the multiple sex scenes are incredibly detailed and vibrant to look at. The sex scenes themselves are nicely detailed with a solid amount of variation with every scene, including a few events that feature animated scenes though these tend to only happen once per character. As mentioned before, some character designs may leave those a bit wanting as some elements like the dragon, homunculus, and vampire character really aren’t taken advantage of as the fantasy setting allows.

As far as the soundtrack goes, the game features fairly standard background music for a visual novel such as this but it is nice to note that every single character, outside of the male lead of course, is given voicework both inside of sex scenes as well as outside. The voice work is entirely in Japanese but thanks to some great translation work by Frontwing everything comes across perfectly fine.

Overall

OPPAI Academy Big, Bouncy, Booby Babes! is about as upfront with what it wants to be as possible. While there is a plot, it mostly serves to place the players in the world of Yggdrassil where their newfound magic gives them plenty of gorgeous girls to have sex with and boy does this game feature a lot of sex as there are over fifty individual lengthy scenes easily and that doesn’t even count those with three or more. Sure, some characters are given a bit of a short stick development wise compared to others, or barely any development at all, but there is still plenty to enjoy here despite the lack of depth.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – May 31st, Katowice, Poland.

As the result of the partnership between both companies, Gamedec will launch on PC across China, Japan, South Korea, and other Asian territories, adding further to the already amassed player base Anshar Studios built around their Kickstarter campaign.

Add the game to your wishlist on Steam (https://store.steampowered.com/app/917720/Gamedec/).

The game will be localized in simplified and traditional Chinese, Japanese and Korean languages, cementing the Anshar Studios ambition to bring the IP to a broader audience.

“Anshar Studios wants to provide our gamers with systemic narrative role-playing experiences.” – said Łukasz Hacura, CEO of Anshar Studios.

“Whisper Games is in a strong position as a publisher, with titles like Disco Elysium or Realms Beyond under their wings. With their commitment, they will help us reach a whole new audience – we are confident that with their resources and publishing channels, together we can successfully bring Gamedec to Asian markets.”

Markets like China, Japan, and South Korea provide so much potential for Western studios and publishers looking to make their mark. The hunger for quality games in these three regions is frankly astronomical.

ABOUT GAMEDEC

Gamedec is an authentic RPG experience where every decision comes with consequences. The world adapts to each decision you make. As the story progresses, your hero adapts as well. Just like in “real” life, the consequences of your choices can be immediate, long-term, or stay hidden, surfacing only when you least expect them. Whatever you decide, the game will remain neutral without judging your choices or suggesting “better” options. It is up to you to evaluate what you’ve done. Just remember that in this job, the game is always on.

Anshar Studios returns to the foundations of the RPG genre with their new game, built on mechanics such as Deduction, Codex, and Aspects. These allow for complex conversations and interactions as players create or expose networks of conspiracies while discovering unusual relationships between virtual worlds. Gamedec’s pen-and-paper-based RPG mechanics give players the freedom to approach situations from multiple perspectives.

YOU ARE THE SUM OF YOUR CHOICES

Your goal is to hunt down the criminals of virtual worlds – rich and spoiled businesspeople, parents who want better lives for their children, corporations with plans to rewrite history. Are they acting alone, or are they mere puppets? What does a “happy ending” mean to you? What does it mean to them? Each decision changes the world around you and your character’s personality. Some decisions will feel right, but others might be unexpected.

EXPLORE THE CYBERPUNK OF THE 22ND CENTURY

Welcome to Warsaw City in the 22nd century, where “real” is relative and “life” and “death” have many meanings. Real and virtual worlds have merged, giving rise to ancient vices: lust, sloth, pride or envy. That’s why everyone needs gamedecs – specialists who solve real problems in virtual worlds. Be it the Wild West or a prehistoric amusement park, these and many other worlds reveal our inclinations and weaknesses.

EXPERIENCE THE ESSENCE OF ROLE-PLAYING

Use your wits to gather info from witnesses and suspects, get to the bottom of deceptive schemes, save lives, and investigate the extraordinary relationships between virtual worlds and their inhabitants. Gamedec emulates the nature of tabletop RPGs by focusing on character development through decision-making. As in classic tabletop RPGs, you’re given the freedom to approach situations from multiple angles rather than to force a single solution – the choice is yours, and yours alone.

Gamedec will launch on SteamGOG.com, and Epic Games Store on September 16 this year. The console release date will be announced in the near future.

More information can be found on the game’s official websiteFacebookTwitterYouTube, and Discord

Ghosts ‘n Goblins Resurrection Review

Ghosts ‘n Goblins Resurrection

Developer:Capcom
Publisher:Capcom
Platforms:PlayStation 4 (Reviewed), Switch, Xbox One, PC
Release Date: Available Now
Price: $29.99 – Available Here

Overview

Ghosts ‘n Goblins is probably one of the most well-known classics of the past. While Arthur has certainly gained momentum from the recent nostalgia wave that has landed the series on shirts and merchandise, many still have yet to experience the original due to availability. As they have been doing with a lot of past franchises, Capcom have now rebooted the original with Ghosts ‘n Goblins Resurrection. Side scrolling titles generally fare well, but does that iron-tough difficulty transfer well with all of the new bells and whistles? Let’s find out.

Story

The story in Ghosts ‘n Goblins Resurrection is pretty standard. Players must save the princess from a demon named Astaroth, and must battle their way to the main boss though various monsters and ghosts alike across a good number of stages. Yep, not a lot has changed, but the presentation of the narrative is where this package truly gets its own feet. Resurrection is told like a children’s pop-up book, so even though most will be familiar with the little “save the princess” story, the entire game feels new and fresh due to the charming animations and atmosphere Capcom have packaged within. I think this new gimmick works extremely well here, as the medieval world is better than ever to explore, and even though some may go mad getting there, this retelling does offer satisfying rewards for those patient enough to get past its own difficulty.

Gameplay

Ghosts ‘n Goblins Resurrection is a hard game. That isn’t a surprise to us who grew up with it, or even played a different entry in the franchise, but alas, if you are new – be ready for things to get difficult fast. It isn’t the actual gameplay that really makes matters complicated, however. Arthur jumps, throws weapons, and performs abilities to get past enemies easy enough and anyone should be able to get the hang of the controls quickly. I never had input issues or dealt with much frustration when it came to basic control, as the tedious gameplay kind of comes down to two different elements – player perception of this title, and intentional level design.

Much like Mega ManGhosts ‘n Goblins isn’t a game really built around skill. Instead, it is focused on trial and error. A ton of enemies greet players at almost every turn, re-spawning quickly to create an intense feeling of fear as the player progresses forward. Along with the foes, the environment is littered with traps, spikes, and so on that can hurt or kill Arthur almost instantly, and that is really what makes Ghosts ‘n Goblins Resurrection true to its namesake. The level design makes for a brutal test of patience from even seasoned gamers, and I can see a lot of people tapping out in seconds as there are some bits that just make you want to toss your controller against a wall. That said, I mentioned perception as part of the experience as it really allows the player to understand what kind of game this really is.

When you back up and stop treating this title as a platformer, it oddly becomes fun and addictive. Instead of trying to rush through a stage, players need to adapt to what the stage has to offer. This is a game where you may want to do slight memorization games of sorts to simply understand a stage before continuing, as I found myself taking the time to plot before actually trying to progress, attempting understand the terror that laid before me rather than going in just to die over and over. With such a short life bar, accepting the trial-and-error gameplay is the key to enjoyment with Ghosts ‘n Goblins Resurrection, as players who rely on luck are doomed to frustration. That said, you can lower the difficulty, which helps some, but due to the game never deviating from its own workings, it’s still the same practice until perfect methods at play here – just with more armor. The satisfaction of making it to a checkpoint is like nothing else, and even though some levels like to linger a little too long, I found myself enjoying the game a lot more when I stopped treating it like Mario, and started mapping out each stage like a variety of conquests.

Visuals

The visuals are outstanding. That story-book aesthetic blends with Ghosts ‘n Goblins perfectly, and the animations and worlds look polished and smooth. At first, I was a bit taken back from Arthur’s own sprite as it does look a bit out of place with the environments, but with the other bosses and foes and that pop-up book design, it does fit and looks great as you actually move forward with the game. This is a Capcom title, so things do move smoothly, even if some jarring animation choices for the sake of story can cause quick distractions that will lead a lot of players to yet another death.

Audio

The soundtrack is also wonderful. With a more modern take on the classic, each stage has a great and memorable tune that eases the pain of dying just a bit, creating atmospheric melodies to bring out the medieval appeal. Again, just another trademark of Capcom. Sound effects are also smooth and crisp. I normally wouldn’t spend time talking about that, but so many 2D hard for the sake of being hard titles do not even let you have a gratifying death as a quiet bonk is all you get, but Resurrection does deliver in terms of sound here, and is a better game for it.

Overall

I do not like trial-and-error anything. Mega Man was never my cup of tea, and I have memories of wanting to peel Super Nintendo controllers in half due to that type of design as a kid. That said, perception changes everything, and Ghosts ‘n Goblins Resurrection provided enough of an incentive to play it the way it was intended. Let’s face it. Older games were higher than current titles and were very short experiences. These difficult experiences were not meant to flow through in an hour, and players got their value as they spent twenty hours trying to beat a one-hour game by learning level layout, enemy locations, and so on. That is what Resurrection is all about, and it certainly is not for everyone. Those who are brave enough to step up and donate time will find a remarkable, charming reboot that keeps Arthur alive for a new generation.

Solasta: Crown of the Magister Review

Solasta: Crown of the Magister

Developer: Tactical Adventures
Publisher: Tactical Adventures
Platform: Windows (Reviewed)
Release Date: 27 May 2021
Price:  $39.99 USD/$55.95 AUD – Available Here

Video Review

Overview

Solasta: Crown of the Magister strives to be an old school Dungeons & Dragons style RPG in the same vein as Icewind Dale, Baldur’s Gate, and Neverwinter Nights. Solasta features a brand-new setting that mixes classic fantasy elements with new additions. Like any good tabletop game, players will gather four brave adventures on a grand quest for glory, riches, and possibly the world’s salvation.

Story

Solasta: Crown of the Magister offers the standard fantasy fare involving political tension, brave adventurers and ancient secrets all tied together with an epic quest. It doesn’t break far from the RPG trope, but it does a decent enough job to keep the plot going.

The game feels like the writers are trying to cram important information and a little personality into characters but were severely limited by the number of lines voice actors could perform. As a result, the dialogue pacing feels a bit off. The dialogue isn’t terrible, but it isn’t great. What is terrible is the in-game banter outside of the plot conversations. It sounds like there are only three to five variations of compliments and insults for successful and failed rolls. None of them are particularly great, and a lot of the insults seem unnecessary for a party in a life-or-death battle.

Gameplay

Solasta: Crown of the Magister uses a stripped-down version of the Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition Systems Reference Document. The main mechanics are there, but there is missing content. The game’s presentation always makes it crystal clear that players are engaging in a stand in for a tabletop RPG. All rolls are depicted as an animation of the appropriate dice. Travel and spell times are all accurate to SRD rules. Long distance travel, short rests, and long rests are done correctly. As a bonus, a dungeon creator is in development for those looking to get a bit of the dungeon master experience.

One of the downsides of Solasta: Crown of the Magister is some of the SRD content that was lost to the cutting room floor. Only six classes shipped with the game: Cleric, Fighter, Paladin, Ranger, Rogue, and Wizard. Sorcerer is expected to be released soon after launch as a DLC. While these classes cover the main playstyles of healer, caster, tank, brawler, and agile fighter, some beloved and unique classes like Bard, Druid, and Monk are missing.

There is a decent amount of exploration in Solasta that will reward adventurers with great loot. Several are locked behind some movement puzzles. Unfortunately, a large number of the top-end loot require Misty Step or a combination of Misty Step and another ability. It’s not an ideal situation as it severely limits the creativity that would normally be found in an actual tabletop game. I would have preferred to see more skills and abilities that could be used.

Combat feels like Dungeons & Dragons with miniatures. As expected, the SRD rules are followed faithfully, and all the combat rolls are handled automatically. Boss fights can be difficult. Legendary enemies built around a specific mechanic are particularly brutal until the player figures out a solution. The devs have made a concession by allowing players to adjust the game’s difficulty on the fly. I love the fact that combat is a big part of game, but it isn’t the only solution to every problem. Diplomacy is often an option for major plot related battles.

Much like the rest of the game, items and weight management follow the Dungeons & Dragons standard. The scavenger system is a brilliant mechanic for an RPG. Instead of players ditching unnecessarily heavy items with low values, they can opt to leave them for professional scavengers to pick up and bring back to town. After a certain number of days, players can return to any scavenger and pick up a cut of the profits or buy back any item salvaged.

There are some item management problems. Players can get vendors to detect magical items an unlimited number of times even though there are no more magical items to be found. Players are charged the same fee instead of being capped to the first detection. The biggest issue is the awkward inventory management. Actual looting is decent as players can choose a nearby character and send items directly to their inventory. Weight limits are already clearly depicted, and anything within five squares are all pooled into one group. The issues arise when dealing with character inventories themselves or interacting with merchants. Each character’s inventory is displayed individually, and merchants only buy and sell with one character at a time. It’s terribly awkward, and a more unified approach would make inventory management smoother.

The game’s quality of life features are a mixed bag. Local quick travel allows player to skip long runs around the map. On the flip side, combat and long distance travel are sorely in need of a fast forward button. Long distance travel is probably the worst of the two, as I found myself breaking out my phone to pass time during travel lasting nine or more days. While the game does offer some fast travel options to old locations as the game progresses, long distance travel is simply unavoidable when exploring newer areas. I like the clear indications of which skills and feats are not applicable in Solasta but are kept in for completeness. I just don’t get why it’s necessary to have those skills and feats in the game at all considering plenty of classes and races were already cut without a peep. Another minor issue is dagger throws. While hurling a dagger at the enemy is a good last-ditch attack, the character loses the use of the dagger. The icon still uses the melee icon depicted by a sword, but the character’s silhouette doesn’t appear beside the enemy. It’s just too easy to hurl a dagger in the beginning of combat and not realize it. A better icon is needed for this situation.

The controls are excellent for mouse user but will be lacking for the hotkey loving crowd. The number of hotkeys are limited compared to other RPGs trying to emulate the tabletop RPG experience. On the flip side, the UI is generally clear with its chunky buttons. I would have preferred to see the ability to bind an alternative button for the cancel function as it is locked to escape only. I really like the highlight all objects that can be interacted with. I think that it’s a feature that should be included with every modern RPG as squinting around for chests is just a boring and waste of time.

The game isn’t too buggy. I only encountered gameplay bugs where an enemy would take forever to act or wouldn’t act at all. These are limited in nature and usually only occur every few hours. Visual bugs are more common. Body parts regularly clip through beards during dialogue, bows aren’t being held the right, and, at times, dice disappear completely.

Visuals

Solasta: Crown of the Magister’s visuals are quite rough. The graphics look more at home in the 2010’s than the 2020’s. The models and textures are dated. Animations look a bit unnatural, with bow animations being the worst. The epic close up camera angles are also added at the most random moments. These angles should be reserved for massive critical hits or killing blows of major enemies. Instead, they are randomly used for regular attacks and complete misses.

The game’s style is pretty standard for a fantasy RPG. The lighting system is excellent though. It gives the dungeons an excellent moody feel, and it’s well integrated into the light and dark rules found in the SRD ruleset.

Audio

The voice acting ranges from passable to really bad. Accents have no consistency based on character race or culture. While all of the main characters try to stick to the standard British accent equals a fantasy setting, the remaining accents seem randomly assigned. Most actors seem to be American, and many fall back to an American accent on the regular. On the flip side, the soundtrack is enjoyable, and the sound effects are decent. I like the fact a sharp eared player can actually hear an impending ambush and take appropriate action ahead of time.

Overall

Solasta: Crown of the Magister is one of the more accurate D&D style titles released in the last few years. It’s not a perfect game though. The game suffers from some odd quality of life issues, dated graphics, lousy voice acting, iffy item management, and some gameplay sacrifices probably made to stay within budget. Yet for all it’s flaws, Solasta: Crown of the Magister has me completely hooked with its faithfulness to the 5th edition SRD ruleset and enjoyable combat. If you’re missing the D&D experience, whether its weekend tabletop RPGs with friends or games like Neverwinter Nights, Solasta should be on the top of your list.

THE GUERRILLA REVOLUTION IGNITES IN FAR CRY 6, RELEASING OCTOBER 7, 2021

THE GUERRILLA REVOLUTION IGNITES IN FAR CRY® 6, RELEASING OCTOBER 7, 2021

Embrace the “Resolver” Spirit to Inflict Chaos Against Antón Castillo’s Forces

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA — May 29, 2021 — Today, Ubisoft announced Far Cry® 6 will release on October 7 worldwide on Xbox Series X | S, Xbox One, PlayStation®5, PlayStation®4, Stadia, Amazon Luna and for Windows PC exclusively on both the Epic Games Store and the Ubisoft Store. The game will also be available on Ubisoft+*, Ubisoft’s subscription service. Set in Yara, a tropical paradise frozen in time in the heart of the Caribbean, players will experience the adrenaline rush and chaos of guerrilla combat as they join the revolution to liberate Yaran people from the oppressive rule of dictator Antón Castillo and his teenage son Diego – brought to life by Giancarlo Esposito (The Mandalorian, Breaking Bad) and Anthony Gonzalez (Coco). Development for Far Cry 6 is being led by Ubisoft Toronto**.

As local Yaran and military dropout Dani Rojas, players will be swept up in the guerrilla movement as the brutality of Antón’s rule reaches new heights and the fire of revolution ignites across the country. Players will be able to choose to play Dani as a woman or a man, and will join forces with a colorful cast of characters, including Clara Garcia, the leader of revolutionary group Libertad, or Juan Cortez, a jaded ex-KGB spy and guerrilla master as they fight their way to take down the tyrant.

To succeed against the overwhelming power of Antón’s army, players will embrace the “resolver” spirit, a philosophy of resourcefulness found across Yara, making use of everything and whatever they have to inflict chaos on the regime. Fueled by the creativity of “resolver” mastermind Juan Cortez, Far Cry 6 features a broad and unexpected arsenal of customisable “resolver” weapons and tools. From a motorcycle engine powered minigun to a homing missile throwing backpack, pushing the “resolver” spirit to the limit will grant Dani the power of an entire guerrilla army.

Far Cry 6 gives players unprecedented freedom to experience the game the way they want by supporting their playstyle, whether they prefer a stealthy or forceful approach. In addition to resolver options, players will be able to pick traditional weapons and use new ways to traverse the world such as horses, tanks and crazy DIY vehicles. They will also be able to pair up with all-new animal companions like Chorizo, the adorable wiener dog no soldier can ignore or Guapo, Juan’s soldier-hungry pet crocodile.

In solo or two-player co-op, players will explore a vast and contrasted open world, from lush jungles to decaying cities. With Antón’s army controlling the air, roads, and seas, players will operate from hidden guerrilla camps across the country, gathering soldiers and resources while planning their next move. Players will have to navigate the world and approach situations like true guerrilla fighters to make sure every strike against the regime hits hard.

Fans who pre-order Far Cry 6 will get access to the “Libertad Pack” which includes the “Libertad Outfit” for Chorizo and the state-of-the-art “Discos Locos”, a weaponised disc launcher that will make enemies dance on their own graves. Fans who purchase Far Cry 6 on Xbox One or PlayStation®4 will be able to upgrade their version to next gen at no additional cost on the Xbox Series X | S and the PlayStation®5.***

Additionally, the standalone Ubicollectibles 26-cm tall figurine “Lions of Yara”, which showcases Antón Castillo, the President and leader of Yara, and his teenage son Diego, is now available for pre-orders on the Ubisoft Store. It includes a unique code that unlocks a weapon charm in Far Cry 6, the “The Lion of Yara.”
