No Place for Bravery’s War-Scarred World Arrives on Switch, PC Q4 2021

No Place for Bravery’s War-Scarred World Arrives on Switch, PC Q4 2021

BRASÍLIA, BRAZIL – 19 June, 2021 – No Place For Bravery, the story-driven action-RPG from Glitch Factory and Ysbryd Games exploring the lengths a parent would go to find their child, launches Q4 2021 on Nintendo Switch and Steam for PC.

The corpses of giants tower over battlefields colored by blood in Dewr, a Nordic-inspired world long marred by war. In camps and villages amidst the ruins of civilization, people struggle to rebuild and reconnect. Thorn, an ex-soldier carrying the weight of a thousand sins, prepares to hang up his sword forever until a chance appears to save his family.

Feel the weight of sword, shield, and guilt once more on a journey to find Thorn’s long-lost daughter Leaf and uncover the truth of her disappearance. Aided by Phid, Thorn’s foster son, walk the path to redemption through a devastated high-fantasy world that chews up hope and demands the hardest choices.

Channel the bloody memories of past battles to slash, block, and parry in fast-paced, demanding combat. Stand up to unrelenting foes and titanic bosses who hit hardest after an ill-timed dodge or depleted stamina. Dash out of danger’s way and redirect the flow of combat in Thorn’s favor, or adjust difficulty options to leisurely enjoy the narrative.

A painstakingly detailed pixel art world bears down on Thorn while the melancholic soundtrack of ancient struggle judges his every decision. Inspired by the real-world experiences of the development team and their own parenthood, No Place for Bravery examines the role of parents and the consequences of their choices on their children.

“The actions of parents resonate long after the fact,” said Matheus Queiroz, developer at Glitch Factory. “No one ever truly knows how to raise a child in an unpredictable, unforgiving world. Mistakes will happen and we must live with them. This story—and our own journey creating it—is an expression of that.”

No Place For Bravery launches Q4 2021 on Nintendo Switch and Steam for PC for $19.99, with support for English, Brazilian Portuguese, French, German, Spanish, Korean, Japanese, and Simplified Chinese text at launch.

Space Survival Platformer Residual Takes to the Stars on PC, Consoles Q3 2021

Space Survival Platformer Residual Takes to the Stars on PC, Consoles Q3 2021

First New Release from Relaunched Legendary Publisher Apogee Entertainment

THE NETHERLANDS — 19 June 2021 — Revealed during GameSpot’s Play for All showcase, Residual, a new breed of survival platformer from OrangePixel and legendary publisher Apogee Entertainment, crash-lands on Steam for PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch Q3 2021.

Standing alone against a uniquely generated alien world, you play as the survivor of a crashed spaceship with the goal of escaping if at all possible. Explore a strange world within a forgotten galaxy and uncover ancient lore and mysteries hidden for centuries miles beneath the surface.

Apogee Entertainment, the industry luminaries who brought you Duke Nukem, Prey, Wolfenstein 3D, and Max Payne, introduces an unpredictable survival adventure. The unique Nature Engine (not based on Unity or Unreal) generates thousands of possible planets with radically different temperatures, plant life, weather and terrain on every playthrough.

Harvest food and find warmth to make it through the night. Unearth precious metals to craft sci-fi survival tools like teleporters and force fields. Dangerous storms threaten from above and the traps of a mysterious, long-lost species guard the labyrinth of caves below.

Yet through it all, Residual strives for an accessible experience anyone can enjoy. Solve light puzzles and think up creative, freeform solutions for avoiding confrontation. Choose a male, female, or non-binary protagonist and set forth with the snarky, humorous robot companion—the Personal Disaster Bot (a.k.a. Peedy-B)—as a guide who happens to think it’s the star of this galactic story!

No matter where the adventure goes, what the planet has in store, and which of over 3,000 plant and animal species appear… At the deepest layers of the planet, the secrets of what brought this uncharted galaxy to its knees await to be discovered.

“When designing Residual, my goal was to offer players something brand new every time they sat down to play,” said Pascal Bestebroer of one-man studio OrangePixel. “Every world tells its own story, shaped by your personal journey through it. The experience will always be challenging, but never unfair, and a rich story awaits for those who choose to seek it.”

“Look, it wasn’t me who crashed,” butts in Peedy-B in a raspy, computerized voice. “But let’s get real here—as the brains of this operation, it’ll be up to me to get us both off this rock!”

Residual opens a galaxy map on Steam for PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch Q3 2021. For more on OrangePixel and Apogee’s journey through space, check out the game website, follow the studio on Twitter, Discord, and Facebook, and tune in for Pascal’s weekly devlogs on YouTube. About Apogee Entertainment

Apogee Software’s pioneering journey began in 1987, when Scott Miller decided to split his new game, Kingdom of Kroz, into three episodes, with the first episode available as free shareware. The “Apogee model” of distribution revolutionized PC gaming at the time and catapulted Apogee Software to global renown. As an indie publisher, Apogee (and it’s later incarnation, 3D Realms) would introduce the world to id Software, Remedy Entertainment, Parallax Software, and other video game superstars in the making. As a developer, Apogee would innovate and inspire in equal measure, creating treasured characters and franchises like Duke Nukem, Shadow Warrior, and Prey en route to earning over a billion dollars in commercial revenue.

The new Apogee Entertainment, with founder Scott Miller and longtime partner Terry Nagy at the helm, will empower today’s incredibly talented indie developers, paving the way for their global success with innovative ideas, cutting-edge marketing, and the same fearlessness that changed the industry.

The Liberty Zeitgeist: World of Warships: Legends in June

Tons of new American battleships appear in early access with the release of German aircraft carriers

June 21 – American battleships are arriving in force during the new update to World of Warships: Legends as the defining features of a new campaign, a special bureau project, and a whole alternate battleship tech tree branch in early access. Beyond plenty of USN representation, there is also a trio of German aircraft carriers coming plus a new season of Arena.

The new “Georgia On My Mind” campaign presents the American fast battleship Georgia. Based on a preliminary design for the Iowa-class battleships, Georgia boasts an incredible top speed for a battleship with six monstrous 18-inch (457 mm) guns. Using these features in concert, Georgia can effectively brute force her way through many engagements. Apart from her offensive ability, she has comparable defences to the Iowa with an improved repair party and signature American anti-aircraft firepower. There’s 100 milestones to complete in the campaign over the next 5 weeks, players who finish the campaign with admiralty backing will earn the Georgia along with a pile of rewards.

A new line of American battleships is joining the fleet starting from Tier IV in early access. Firepower is the name of the game for these heavy hitters, the lightest you get is a salvo of ten 14-inch (356 mm) guns at Tier IV with Nevada, working your way up to an absurd salvo of twelve 16-inch (406 mm) guns aboard Kansas at Tier VII. The first three battleships—Nevada, Tennessee, and North Carolina—are available this update in early access and can be obtained through new USN battleship containers. Kansas arrives in the next update. USN battleship containers can be earned through the campaign and the new bureau project: Star-Spangled Fleet.

The Star-Spangled Fleet bureau project is here just in time for Fourth of July celebrations in the United States. Throughout this all-American project, there are free permanent camouflages for American battleships of both tech trees, but the ultimate prize is a free premium American battleship—Oklahoma. This is the sister-ship to Nevada and was one of the fateful battleships irreparably sunk during the attack on Pearl Harbor and is brought back to fighting form in World of Warships: Legends.

For something entirely different, the update brings a new set of German aircraft carriers, the Rhein at tier III, Weser at tier V, and August von Parseval at Tier VII. These somewhat mythical carriers bring new armament to the high seas: Armor Piercing Bombs. These can be used to deal significant damage to the citadels of enemy ships. Their torpedo bomber armament focuses on light targets with high-speed torpedoes with short range. These new flattops are available to unlock immediately via the tech tree, be sure to try them out in the new update.

Last, but certainly not least, we have a new season of Arena opening from June 24th to July 12th. This fan-favourite is returning with a twist—the Arms Race mode. In this edition of Arena, players will have to compete for various buffs and bonuses for their ships around the map in battle. Each one will give your team’s ships an edge over the enemy, allowing you to get the upper hand in the four-way duel. Go out there, play a few battles and see how well you can place on the leaderboard!

June and July is set to be a freedom-packed month for World of Warships: Legends with lots of new content to dominate the seas. Be sure to try the new ships and Arena, and turn the tide.

Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts 2 Review

Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts 2

Developer: CI Games
Publisher: CI Games
Platforms: Xbox Series X Xbox OnePlayStation 4, PC (Reviewed)
Release Date: 4 Jun 2021
Price: $79,95 AUD – Available Here $39,99 USD – Available Here

Overview

I already wrote before how sniper games are my weak spot. Or snipers in general. Or if any game gives m a choice to shoot at enemies from a distance. There is something incredibly appealing in roleplaying as the ultimate predator that can be killed in one hit and your only hope are your wits, along with a sniper rifle. I a game has a sniper class, I’ll give it a chance regardless of how terrible it might be. Sure, my Borderlands 2 playthrough might have been easier if I picked anyone else besides Zer0 but he has a sniper in promo trailers! My decision was made on the spot. If it wasn’t already obvious, Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts 2 isn’t exactly a newcomer here. I already gave a decent score to its predecessor so I’m hoping this one is more polished. Maybe there is a surprise or two along the way. A new gameplay feature even? We’ll see.

Story

Remember that super engaging story from the first Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts? You don’t? That’s ok, no one does. In this entry, the story also takes a backseat and serves only as a barely connected plot device as you go from one level to another. It’s not a bad story campaign, but also not a surprising one or the one that will keep you at the edge of your seat. There is a big baddie and you have to first eliminate his closest before you get to him. But in a twist that no one else saw coming, the barely mentioned character during the campaign is now replacing the recently assassinated big baddie and again you’re the only one that can stop him. If you ask me in a week from now what’s the story in Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts 2, I’ll have trouble remembering that I even wrote this sentence, let alone anything more from the campaign. But as we all know, the story is merely a bandaid to the game and we’re gonna deal with the more important things next.

Gameplay

If you played the previous game, the formula is the same. Assassinate the required key targets and how you get to them and how you dispose of them is entirely up to you. Will you sneak your way to the goal or go full Rambo across the map? The enemy AI seems a bit improved this time, as well as tweaked to a sensible level. They can’t see you anymore through a rainforest 5 kilometers away and they’re now a bit smarter with investigating your last known position. Every map features a lot of challenges requiring you to eliminate your targets in a certain way (headshot, explosion, while they’re escaping), and successfully doing so will earn you skill tokens and credits. You use those for obtaining new skills, sniper rifles, primary and secondary weapons. Some skills that you had to earn in the first game are now unlocked here by default. One of the drawbacks of the game that’s investing most of its gameplay in unlockable skills is that you need to be thorough with the challenges before the finally get some variety in gameplay. But take your time and be meticulous in the first few maps and pretty soon you’ll be a one-man army. Bt won’t the difficulty be uneven then, you ask? Well, that’s the beauty of Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts 2. You can unlock pretty much every skill in the game and still sweat profusely before firing every shot on the highest difficulty. You have to take wind speed as a factor, bullet fall, and gravity. Or you can just go with the easy difficulty and shoot where the red dot is pointing.

Visuals

The maps are larger now but that comes with more intuitive levl design. No more you have to run a small marathon across the map to get from one target to another. If you familiarize yourself with each level, you’ll find plenty of shortcuts an secret passages whose purpose is to shorten the distance between the level objectives. And for more good news, the eye blinding snow levels from the previous games are not making a return. Yaay! Instead you get more scorching heat desert enviroments, dense forests and night time mountains.

Audio

Some audio bugs that were present in the first game (such as audio randomly dying and music refusing to do its thing) have been ironed out. No more playing the game like you’re hearing impaired and if anything, playing this sequel with a good pair of headphones brings it to a whole new level. It might take some practice but eventually, you’ll be able to pinpoint where the enemies are hidden behind the obstacles going by their footsteps and chatter. The soundtrack isn’t anything to write novels about, but at least it’s more present and dynamic compared to the game before.

Overall

In the end, while Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts 2 doesn’t bring anything new to the table (if we don’t count new weapons, levels, and skills, but that’s to be expected for a new game) it decides to go with a different approach. It takes what worked in the first game and improves it. And for things that didn’t work……well, they are not making a return this time. A fair trade, I’d say. If you played and liked the first game, purchasing this one is a no-brainer. If this is your first encounter with the Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts series, you’ll be pleased to know that the sequel is way more accessible compared to the first game. And after hundreds and hundreds of headshots, I noticed that exploding heads splatter in way more bits and pieces now. Either that much is true or I’ve been playing this game for way too long. Oh, who am I kidding, no such thing as “playing too long”.
