R&B and neo-soul star Billy Davis joins ORDER as Creative Ambassador

R&B and neo-soul star Billy Davis joins ORDER as Creative Ambassador

Leading Australian esports organisation ORDER has just signed on Melbourne-based R&B and neo-soul artist Billy Davis as Creative Ambassador.

Signed to Sony Music Entertainment Australia, Billy is also an avid gamer and will lead ORDER’s charge to close the gap between gaming, music and fashion – just to name a few of the many disciplines now collaborating in this space.

As Creative Ambassador, Billy will play a key role in ORDER’s activations and collaborations. The keyboard virtuoso and composer is also an advocate for breaking down traditional barriers and the preconceived notions of gaming.

“I really want to broaden the reach of gaming, particularly in Oceania – and put it into the mainstream where it belongs,” says Billy. “It’s no longer a subculture, but just part of our culture in Australia, our pop culture, and I will be collaborating with my network and connections across music and fashion to explore these fields further.”

Regardless of COVID, Australia’s gaming industry has been on the up, according to the latest Australian Entertainment Media Outlook 2020-2024 report from PwC.

“Australians are one of the highest per capita spenders on video games in the world,” the report says, with total gaming and esports revenue hitting $3.175 billion in 2019 and $3.403 billion in 2020. Confidence in Australian esports organisations is growing. ORDER’s $AU5.3m capital raise earlier in the year is testament to investor interest.

Billy, who’s enjoyed gaming from a young age, jumped at the opportunity to join ORDER and will also have a share in the business. With insider insight and not wanting to give away too much right now, Billy’s advice is: “You want to get in early before it takes off.”

“What ORDER is doing and looking at doing, has not been done on this side of the world successfully,” he says. “Signing me on shows ORDER is stepping into new territory in Oceania. Look at big companies like FaZe Clan and 100 Thieves, they collaborated with musicians and the like and are now the biggest esports companies in the US. The only direction for ORDER is up – it’s the ‘new ORDER of esports’ in this region.”

As the face of ORDER, Billy also wants to encourage other creative people to come forward and work in the space, with so many opportunities in content creation alone, for example. Billy’s interest in games was piqued as a child because his uncle was involved in the development of Quake, and before he knew it Billy was hosting LAN parties at his house.

On tour with Tones and I in the UK and Europe when the COVID pandemic hit in 2020, games were a way for Billy to cope with the situation.

“Like music, games can be an escape from reality and help me to relax,” he says. “Last year it really helped me get my mind off the fact my European/UK tour got cancelled. It was a way to have fun and reconnect with my friends while also in lockdown. Just as I tinker away at my piano as an outlet, gaming is part of the mix of who I am and what I love.”

ORDER CEO Marc Edwards says the organisation is excited to have Billy onboard.

“We know that music aligns strongly with gaming and Billy is an artist on the rise, which makes him a great fit for the organisation,” says Marc.

“Billy has such a zest, passion and talent for what he does and really embodies the direction we’re heading at ORDER – to build a digital content and entertainment business with a DNA in esports that helps shape the future of gaming and youth culture.”

ABOUT BILLY DAVIS

Billy amassed over 12 million combined streams for his album THIS IS WHAT’S IMPORTANT via Sony Music Entertainment Australia and received accolades from Hypebeast, Sneaker Freaker, High Snobiety, Okay Player, LNWY, Acclaim, Purple Sneakers, Beat Magazine, Complex AU and Red Bull Music, as well as Australian national broadcaster triple j and Beats 1.

Billy Davis’s unique sound, positive approach, and sheer drive quickly piqued the interest of international artists, who have become not just contemporaries but friends. He’s collaborated with the likes of Goldlink, Brockhampton, Tones And I, Amy Shark, music directing and performing with them on triple j’s Like A Version, as well as music directing and performing in Goldlink’s NPR Tiny Desk. Billy previously reworked Ruel’s standout single ‘Not Thinkin’ Bout You’. Watch the video HERE.

Along with building up a global network of creative collaborators, Billy has shared the stage with Anderson Paak, NoName, Thundamentals, Ruel, Jessica Mauboy and Blackalicious, played at Australia’s most recognised festivals including Let Them Eat Cake, Golden Plains, Laneway Festival, and Lost Paradise.

A musical juggernaut, Billy’s band The Good Lords is constantly evolving, morphing, and expanding, and features up to 11 members on stage at any given moment. Collaboration, with his band and other artists, it at the heart of everything he does.

CHECK OUT WHAT HAPPENED AT WITCHERCON!

On July 9th and 10th, CD PROJEKT RED and Netflix presented WitcherCon — a global online celebration of The Witcher franchise featuring numerous panels and announcements related to the world of The Witcher video games and the Netflix series.

Streaming to Twitch and YouTube, WitcherCon was aired over two separate streams containing many fun and eventful panels focused around different aspects of the world of The Witcher — as well as content unique to each stream. Some of the highlights from the event include: Geralt of T-Rivia — where key creators from The Witcher series of games and The Witcher Netflix series competed to test their knowledge in a Witcher-universe themed quiz. Then, in Memories From the Path, developers from CD PROJEKT RED discussed how the digital stories of the games have been brought to life over the years, before revisiting old memories together and reminiscing about the creation of the games.

Watch the recordings of the two WitcherCon streams:

WitcherCon – 1st Stream

WitcherCon – 2nd Stream

CD PROJEKT RED also put the spotlight on their expanded Witcher universe in The Witcher: Beyond Video Games — at the heart of which was the reveal of the upcoming comic book The Witcher: Ronin. The comic is stylized in the manga form, and tells an ancient-Japanese-inspired tale which casts Geralt as a monster-slaying Ronin on the hunt of the mythical Yuki Onna — the Lady of Snow. A special hardback collector’s edition of The Witcher: Ronin will be coming soon to Kickstarter.

Spokko, member of the CD PROJEKT family, was also at WitcherCon to present new footage from their location-based AR RPG The Witcher: Monster Slayer. Coming to iOS and Android for free on July 21st, the game tasks players with becoming a witcher themselves, stepping out into familiar surroundings transformed into a dark fantasy realm to hunt down bloodthirsty beasts lurking nearby.

What’s more, in addition to hosting panels featuring the cast of The Witcher Netflix series at WitcherCon, Netflix also provided sneak peeks and updates regarding the second season of its hugely popular series, and The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf anime. As well as fresh looks at both, the release dates for these projects were also revealed during the event, with Season 2 coming on December 17th, and the anime arriving August 23rd.

WitcherCon is also not the only example of CD PROJEKT RED and Netflix’s collaboration. Later in 2021, the next-gen edition of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will be coming to Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC, and the game will also include bonus items inspired by the Netflix series. The next-gen upgrade for the game will be free for owners of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.

Venture into the dungeon with Magic: The Gathering Adventures in the Forgotten Realms

Magic collaborates with iconic tabletop roleplaying game Dungeons & Dragons for the first time

Friday 9 July, 2021 —Wizards of the Coast today released Adventures In The Forgotten Realms, the latest set from the world’s oldest and best trading card game Magic: The Gathering (MTG) on MTG Arena and in-stores on 23 July. The first ever cross-branded set between MTG and the iconic tabletop role-playing game, Dungeons & Dragons (D&D), merges classic D&D monsters, spells and mechanics with MTG gameplay to create a brand new set that fans of both games will love.

Inspired by D&D’s deep lore, Adventures In The Forgotten Realms brings players to the region of Faerûn, filled with new lands to explore, treasure to collect and dungeons to conquer. Characters from the new set are inspired by well-known D&D characters and icons including the gnome bard Ellywick, the crime boss Beholder Xanathar, the Elder Dragon Tiamat, and many others.

With over 260 cards in the set, Adventures In The Forgotten Realms is the first set to utilise flavour words to illustrate the stories told by the creatures and spells of the world. New card prompts ensure all player choices have a unique flavour of their own, whether players choose which attack a creature uses or which action to make when playing an instant. In true D&D style, certain cards will also instruct players to roll a 20-sided die to determine the result of creature abilities and spells. The new element of unpredictability brought to MTG mechanics will encourage players to think outside the box and use random outcomes to their advantage.

Lastly, Adventures In The Forgotten Realmsintroduces the new Dungeon card type. When a spell or ability allows players to “venture into the dungeon”, they will embark on their own adventure and traverse through a dungeon of the player’s choice, activating room abilities to receive rewards and bonuses.

Thematically recognisable art styles can be found in Adventures In The Forgotten Realmsboosters for certain lands and creatures. Limited land cards have alternate art styles reminiscent of classic D&D adventure modules such as the “Cave of the Frost Dragon” card. A selection of iconic creatures also have alternate art styles depicting their entries in the older versions of the D&D Monster Manual such as in the card “Baleful Beholder”.

Adventures In The Forgotten Realmsis available in Set Boosters, Draft Boosters and Collector Boosters, with each pack containing its own unique selection of rare or mythic rare cards, tokens and art cards. Commander decks featuring cards from the new set will also be available from 23 July.

For more information on Adventures In The Forgotten Realms, visit https://magic.wizards.com/en/products/forgotten-realms or watch Wizard’s YouTube series on the new set here.
