KOEI TECMO ANNOUNCES BLUE REFLECTION: SECOND LIGHT, THE ANXIOUSLY-AWAITED SEQUEL TO THE 2017 FAN-FAVOURITE!

Unlock the Mystery Behind a World of Lost Memories

Hertfordshire, 29th July 2021 – KOEI TECMO Europe is excited to announce that BLUE REFLECTION: Second Light, the highly-anticipated sequel to the beloved 2017 JRPG, BLUE REFLECTION, is currently in development by Gust Studios. The fan-treasured franchise is scheduled to make its return to Europe on November 9th, 2021 and will be released for the Nintendo Switch™, PlayStation®4 Computer Entertainment System (playable on PlayStation®5 via Backward Compatibility), and Windows PC via Steam®.

BLUE REFLECTION: Second Light follows the adventures of three students – Ao Hoshizaki, Kokoro Utsubo, and Yuki Kinjou – who find themselves transported to a mysterious floating academy, searching for clues to find their way back home, with only their names as memories. One day, a path leading to a new land appears, but when the three protagonists set off to unravel the mystery, they are met by a horde of deadly monsters. By battling the fiendish creatures, they unlock unknown powers that only seem to deepen the cryptic nature of their surroundings. Throughout the adventure, the three friends cooperate and struggle to make their everyday-life as rich and as fun as possible. While spending every day trapped in this unknown world, the characters’ true feelings and personalities will be revealed, and as their bonds grow deeper, they will acquire new strengths and abilities.

Furthermore, not only will the protagonists be able to build their ideal academy throughout the game, but they will also be able to craft items together, and depending on the character combinations, the completed item’s properties can change, even triggering special conversations. By deepening their friendships, the three students will eventually grow closer to the mystery of this world and the reason of why they lost their memories.

In addition to the first gameplay and storyline details, KOEI TECMO also announced that famed illustrator Mel Kishida is once again spearheading the franchise’s character designs. The richly detailed designs will enrich both the upcoming BLUE REFLECTION: Second Light video game as well as the BLUE REFLECTION: Ray anime series.

A brand-new trailer was also released today to give players a taste of what they can expect when BLUE REFLECTION: Second Light launches later this year!

The Ascent Review

London, United Kingdom – 29 July, 2021 – You belong to The Ascent Group, but can you survive without it? Publisher Curve Digital and Swedish indie studio Neon Giant are excited to invite gamers to make their mark in the brave new world of Veles, as the studio’s highly anticipated debut title The Ascent launches today on PC, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and Xbox Game Pass at 6pm BST / 7pm CEST / 10am PDT.

A solo and co-op action-shooter RPG set in a sci-fi cyberpunk world, The Ascent is the first title from Neon Giant, a new 12-person studio composed of games industry veterans who were some of the minds behind iconic AAA titles such as the Gears of War, Bulletstorm and Wolfenstein franchises.

Check out Gameplay here:

The Ascent sees players dive into ‘The Ascent Group’ arcology, a self-contained corporate-run metropolis, stretching high into the sky and filled with creatures from all over the galaxy. Taking on the role of an indentured worker, the world starts to go haywire when The Ascent Group shuts down for unknown reasons. Life becomes a case of survival, with rival corporations and crime syndicates looking to fill the empty space and players having to take up arms to hold them off.

About three years ago we founded Neon Giant; a small game dev studio with the belief that with the right focus and mindset, even just a few people can create grand experiences and high quality games,” said Tor Frick, Creative Director and co-founder of Neon Giant. “We have a passion for creating living worlds and action gameplay – it’s in our DNA from our shared history in the industry and The Ascent is the result of our team’s passion and hard work.”

Fellow co-founder and Creative Director of the studio Arcade Berg added: “In The Ascent you start off at the bottom of the food chain – that’s just the life of an indent – but as you progress, you will get to grow more powerful, find shiny guns, toys and augmentations making you able to live out your twisted power fantasies – if you choose – with robot tentacles coming out of your back. We will take you across the world, wide and high, in a megacity filled with turmoil and introduce you to characters who have found ways to thrive in this environment. We hope our game is as fun and exciting for you playing it as it was for us to make it.”

About The Ascent

The Ascent offers players the chance to step into an action-orientated sci-fi RPG powered by Unreal Engine that takes the genre to new levels, available to play in both single-player and up to four-player co-op. The game will target 60 fps and have full 4K support on the Xbox Series X, offering amazing gameplay performance for new generation console players.

Features:

  • A free-roam play style in a cyberpunk inspired dystopian world
  • Classic RPG mechanics to enable players to build up their character including cyberware, augmentations and looting
  • An unprecedented sense of verticality within its world, with different levels and platforms discernible within play
  • Double-aim mechanic enables players to utilise the full screen and choose between multiple targets anywhere in the environment
  • A narrative-led adventure playable in single and up to four-player co-op modes

The Ascent is now available on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One consoles and PC and Xbox Game Pass.

The Ascent Review

The Ascent

Developer: Neon Giant
Publisher: Curve Digital
Platforms: Xbox Series XXbox OnePC (Reviewed)
Release Date: 29 Jul 2021
Price: $29,99 USD – Available Here

Overview

Sometimes I wonder, does anyone think about the little man? You know those NPC quest givers, those side characters that utter a word or two. How is the videogame world shown to them? Imagine being one of those and you observe the main character passing you by, going on with their quest and saving the world eventually. Imagine having a taste of that good life and with you being the protagonist for once. I think that The Ascent unintentionally delves deeper into that premise.

Story

The so-called Ascent Group arcology is a corporate-run metropolis stretching high into the sky and filled with creatures from all over the galaxy. You are one of the no-name workers enslaved by the corporation and sentenced to a life of hard labor until you eventually pay off your debt (which is predictably enormous). But here comes the plot twist. One day, The Ascent Group shuts down for unknown reasons and the survival of your district is threatened. Find some weapons, armor, augment your body, level up here and there, and try to find out what is happening. For once, be the protagonist of your own story instead of a boring NPC.

Gameplay

The Ascent is a twin-stick action RPG with a simple yet fun gameplay loop. Go through tight and interconnected corridors, dispose of the enemies along the way and be smart with allocating those skill points after each level up. There is a huge arsenal of weapons but you’re limited to carrying only two at the same time, a primary and a side gun. You can also occasionally throw a grenade at a group but I’d often miss in the heat of the shootout (and a painfully slow cooldown for using the grenades didn’t help either). For what is worth, The Ascent is pretty fun. It understands the genre that it sides with, the feeling of mowing down swarms of enemies in claustrophobic corridors and it strikes a fine balance between being challenging yet fair. A great example of a game where you get exactly what you paid for. But alas, there is more to the story here. A plot twist in a review. The Ascent has another selling point that is barely advertised on the store page yet it is a big part of the game’s charm.

Visuals

And that would be this, the visuals. The story of the game is set in a grim cyberpunk world, filled with neon lights, struggle for survival and dog eat dog mentality. It’s something that becomes shown pretty early in the story as soon as you get to your district. But when it comes to visuals, things become somewhat charming and deceptively reassuring. For all the horrid things happening in it, the world of Veles walks a thin line between an aesthetically pleasing acid trip and an urban environment made of hundreds of brick & steel buildings with aggressive neon flashing lights reminding you to spend your hard earnings. The character design is often grotesque and after a while, you’ll just learn to label all the NPC as “mutants” and “not a mutant, but almost there”. Honestly, it’s sometimes hard to take a minute and admire and the visuals during all of those blood-fueled shootouts, but it’s definitely worth it to stop and stare once in a while.

Audio

When it comes to the soundtrack, The Ascent doesn’t disappoint on that front. The soundtrack is a mix of heavy machinery fighting with itself and producing some unexpected, yet surprisingly tense sounds as you explore Veles. The music during boss fights also deserves an honorable mention in being adrenaline-inducing as well as distracting while a mutant that is triple your size is chasing you around a massive steel pillar. Fun. All in all, the music perfectly compliments the overall aesthetic of the game.

Overall

Whether you play it solo or with three other friends in co-op, The Ascent gives you way more than you expected. Later on, the more augmentations you unlock, the more variety is presented to you in the combat and in mowing down large clusters of enemies. It is also surprisingly lengthy for an indie action RPG, with the expectancy of 10 to 15 hours if you’re just here for the story, and over 20 if you decide to explore every nook and cranny while completing the sidequests. It is a game that you can play at your own pace, occasionally taking breaks to explore the gorgeous visuals of Veles or find some buddies and steamroll through everything, painting all the walls red. Whatever path your choose, it’s always fun and that’s all that matters in the end.

GTA 2-Inspired Glitchpunk to Launch into Early Access with New Baltia as First Playable City

Take to the neon streets of a violent cyberpunk future and face off against gangs, cults, and shady corporations in Glitchpunk.

Hamburg, Germany – 28th July, 2021 — Enter the chaos-ridden streets of New Baltia! Do you have what it takes to handle the unbridled insanity of a world unhinged? Revealed to be coming to Steam Early Access on Aug. 11th, 2021, Glitchpunk, a cyberpunk-themed game with an old-school GTA 2 feel, will feature New Baltia as the first playable city in the game. Providing approximately eight hours of play at launch, it won’t be long before more content arrives.

Outpost Texas, originally intended to be included at launch, will arrive in three to four weeks as Glitchpunk’s first major update. Adding another six to eight hours of play, developer Dark Lord decided they wanted to give players their absolute best and chose to spend a small amount of time continuing to develop the second city.

Check out the mayhem in action in Glitchpunk’s Date Reveal Trailer

A top-down action game where you shoot, brawl, drive, steal and sneak yourself through a neon-soaked world full of gangs and cults, forging cooperations along the way, Glitchpunk isn’t just about blowing things up – it also tells a compelling story of transhumanism, xenophobia, and religion. You can influence the world around you, make new friends, face off against more enemies than you can count – and perhaps, just perhaps, convert an enemy’s aversion to affection.

Glitchpunk’s Early Access will launch with New Baltia available on day one and Outpost Texas arriving in three to four weeks. Two more cities — Neo Tokyo and Moscow — will be added during the Early Access journey. Each city has its own gangs and characters while also continuing the protagonist’s gripping story. Keep an eye out for more information on Glitchpunk’s Early Access updates as a detailed road map will be on the way soon after the game’s launch.

In Glitchpunk you play as a glitching android going against your own programming and challenging the tyrannical governments and megacorps of the dystopian near-future. Forge your own path in several cities full of drug-crazed gangs, aggressive police, and irresponsible drivers that make each mission and playthrough unpredictable. Steal cars and lead your enemies on a merry chase, fight them with a variety of melee and long-range weapons, and upgrade your own body with technology that enables you to manipulate your surroundings or improve your capabilities.

Key features:

  • Brutal top-down action with a massive arsenal of weapons to choose from
  • Hacking system allowing players to control the minds of pedestrians and affect various devices.
  • Many different ways of locomotion, including trains, tanks, motorbikes, buses, trucks, and obviously tons of cars
  • Frantic police chases and up to 10 escalations of mayhem-inducing wanted levels
  • 12 gangs with their own stories, quests, and culture
  • Four different cities, from the desert remains of the USA to cyberpunk Soviet Russia in a post-nuclear winter (New Baltia at Early Access launch, Outpost Texas 3 to 4 weeks post-launch, and two more to come!)
  • Mature story with several endings
  • Rare art style mix of 2D sprites in a 3D environment
  • In-game radio with music by artists from all over the world, together with news stations and absurd commercials

Catch, Explore and Survive in the PC and Nintendo Switch Fishing Adventure with a Sinister Undercurrent, Dredge

Prepare for a fishing trip filled with hapless inhabitants, mysterious far-flung islands, and seas that are brimming with deep, dark secrets

Christchurch, New Zealand, July 29, 2021 Black Salt Games, a small indie studio from New Zealand driven by a love for video games, is announcing its debut title, Dredge, a game filled with fishing, friends, and foreboding seas that may appear calm, but they’re actually far from it.

Set in a Lovecraft-inspired world, players begin their extraordinary adventure when they take up fishing at their new home in The Marrows islands and strange things begin to occur. The core mechanics of Dredge involve a combination of collecting and selling resources, upgrading your equipment and abilities, and exploration.

Players will come across a number of peculiar inhabitants, both on land and at sea, that will reward you for your help. While some island dwellers will ask players to complete simple tasks, there are some stranger folk that are willing to pay big if you’re willing to retrieve some more exotic artifacts from the ocean floor. What they do with these relics is unknown, but you might want to consider if earning extra cash to upgrade your sea vessel is worth bringing about the end of the world.

By day, the seas can be a quiet oasis filled with plenty of opportunities for a fisherman to become profitable. But when the sun goes down, the waters surrounding The Marrows become less inviting. Dangers may approach from down below, above your head, or within your mind. We recommend getting home in time for supper lest you lose your sanity, or worse.

Game Features

●      Explore multiple different regions within the world of Dredge
●      Improve your boat equipment including rods, engines, lights and cargo space
