The Indie Houses Announces the Underrepresented Devs Fund and Future Member Plans

The Indie Houses’ first ever Steam event and Direct showcase has come to an end after a week of streams, sales, and reveals. To make true on the promise to elevate all indies, the focus of this indie collective now turns to the Underrepresented Devs Fund, which is now taking submissions.

The purpose of this fund is to help identify vision holders of great potential in emerging countries or marginalized groups and give them the tools to bring their visions to life. In its inaugural year, the Fund will focus on game development in Africa. Through the African Game Dev Prototype Fund, members of The Indie Houses, Annapurna Interactive, and Games Industry Africa, will distribute funds and necessary resources to the top candidates which are selected by a jury of members from the different houses. Submissions open today and can be found on the Games Industry Africa website.

In addition to the fund, The Indie Houses will continue its commitment to indies helping indies through transparency and cooperation with others in the industry. Discussions amongst the seven current members will begin on how to get others involved with the organization. In the meantime, the website has many useful resources to aid in navigating the indie space, like a list of upcoming industry events (including information on submissions and deadlines), information on getting started on the business side of indies, and links to various grants with plans to add more to the site over time.

SQUARE ENIX COLLECTIVE ANNOUNCE CIRCUIT SUPERSTARS PARTNERSHIP WITH BBC TOP GEAR

Lando Norris and Romain Grosjean revealed among star-studded line-up for Circuit Superstars’ unique take on the “Star in a Reasonably Fast Car” feature

LONDON ( 7th September, 2021)SQUARE ENIX® Ltd.,  and Original Fire Games have partnered with BBC Studios and Top Gear for upcoming racing game CIRCUIT SUPERSTARS. The collaboration is kicking off with a special online version of the show’s “Star in a Reasonably Fast Car” feature! The fun-fuelled video series will release on 9th September, featuring a top-tier line up of motorsport, esports and YouTube stars who will be taking on CIRCUIT SUPERSTARS’ version of the Top Gear ‘Test Track’.

Among the first participants to be revealed from the full list, which includes luminaries from across the motorsports and esports worlds, are IndyCar and former FORMULA 1 driver Romain Grosjean and FORMULA 1 star Lando Norris, alongside teammates from his Quadrant esport team.

“Like every racing fan, I have always wanted to drive the Top Gear test track, and Circuit Superstars is making that a reality. The competition will be tough, with top drivers from a variety of championships and with just one chance to set the perfect hot lap, it will be exciting to see who comes out on top.”- said Romain Grosjean.

Competitors will race their way to the top of the iconic leader board to be crowned champion of the ever so catchy title: “BBC Top Gear x Circuit Superstars Star in a Reasonably Fast Car Invitational 2021”… or “BBCTGxCSSIARFCI2021” for short.

Commentary for both the practice sessions and the hot laps will be hosted by Jack Nicholls, the unmistakable voice of motorsport. Nicholls can be heard lending his voice to BBC Radio 5 Live, FORMULA 1, and Formula E, as well as the Netflix series FORMULA 1: Drive to Survive.

“I’m so looking forward to seeing how our drivers get on,” Nicholls remarks while offering some further insight into CIRCUIT SUPERSTARS. “Make no mistake, this game looks cute, but with a very short circuit and a top-down view, our competitors will find it fiendishly difficult to hook up the perfect lap. The competition will be fierce!”

The Top Gear Test Track will be included within CIRCUIT SUPERSTARS when the game fully launches later this year – players will be able to see if they have what it takes to beat the star-studded line up!

The Witcher: Ronin has arrived on Kickstarter!

CD PROJEKT RED announces that the Kickstarter campaign for The Witcher: Ronin has started today, meaning backers can now pledge for their copy of the exclusive Hard Copy Collector’s Edition of the manga.

The Witcher: Ronin is an original comic, created and published by CD PROJEKT RED, which translates the dark fantasy world of The Witcher into a feudal Japanese setting. The story focuses on monster slayer Geralt, who must venture across Yokai-infested lands while attempting to track down the mysterious Lady of Snow Yuki Onna. The Kickstarter campaign is centered on the exclusive Hard Copy Collector’s Edition of the manga, which includes the main narrative of the comic, three short comic stories featuring fan-favorite Witcher characters, as well as behind-the-scenes content — with more additional content planned to be added throughout the campaign.

Who better, then, to pass on the fruits of his wisdom to the next generation of content creators?

Raiser Games and UPLAY Online are excited to announce that PewDiePie will be headlining a  cast of real life YouTubers who will all appear in forthcoming content creator simulator Youtubers Life 2. Taking on the role of guardians – or ‘Senpais’, as PewDiePie fans may be more accustomed to hearing – Kjellberg and a cast of 10 YouTubers in total will appear in the game in side-missions, offering players the opportunity to increase their knowledge and experience in specially set challenges.

Also joining the line-up will be Crainer, LaurenzSide, Rubius, Paluten, InoxTag, WillyRex, GermanLetsPlay, Vegetta777 and xFaRgAnx. Youtubers Life 2 will offer aspiring content creators the opportunity to live out their YouTube dreams in relative safety when it launches on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch later this year. 

According to Sergio de Benito, Marketing Director at Raiser Games, working with some of the world’s most popular YouTubers should give players an example of the responsibility that comes hand in hand with wielding considerable influence.

“Fame is a fickle beast and – like film stars, pop stars, and sports stars before them – YouTubers have spent the last decade finding out that, once you hit the big time, everything you do or say is under the microscope,” says de Benito. “We thought that having real life YouTubers in play was a must for Youtubers Life 2, because they are the only people on the planet who can, with some authenticity, pass on advice based on the highs and lows they’ve both enjoyed and endured whilst in the public eye. The PlayStation 5 open beta will provide a brutal taste of war, as both sides fight for victory on the Hurtgen Forest map in Warfare mode, which sees each side begin the battle occupying half of the map. From there, they’ll have to push the opposition back and secure enemy territory for themselves until they reach their base, or hold the most ground until the timer runs out. At launch, Warfare will be joined by Offensive mode where one side plays the role of attacker and the other acts as defender, while Hurtgen Forest will be joined by maps set across the Western Front, from the windswept sands of Utah and Omaha beaches to the brutal house-to-house, street-to-street urban fighting across Carentan.

Those who preorder Hell Let Loose on Xbox Series X|S will receive The Silver Vanguard cosmetic downloadable content. The Eastern Front maps of Stalingrad and Kursk, together with the Soviet forces, which are currently available to play in the PC version, will be introduced to the console versions as part of a free, post-launch update this winter.

OutOfTheBit’s 2D retro football game reintroduces players to classic experiences of yesteryear.

NBA 2K22 – 2K Foundations Teams Up with NBA 2K22 Cover Star Luka Doncic to Dedicate Two Basketball Courts to his Hometown

Luka returns to Ljubljana to refurbish his childhood courts with a design inspired by his love of basketball and Slovenia 

Sydney, Australia – September 6, 2021 2K Foundations, the philanthropic arm of 2K that supports and inspires underserved communities by directly investing in local enrichment programs, unveiled its latest project in Ljubljana, Slovenia this past weekend. In partnership with the Municipality of Ljubljana and NBA All-Star Luka Dončić, 2K Foundations has refurbished his childhood court. The refurbishment also includes brand new seating and lighting. 

The artwork featured on the court was designed by Dončić, who chose local graphic designer Nejc Prah to bring his design to life. Luka’s new logo integrates Luka’s initials (LD), his jersey number (77) and arrows that represent his deceptive style of play with negative space revealing an ‘S’ for his home country, Slovenia.

“This is a very exciting day for me.  I have great memories growing up in Ljubljana.  These are my childhood courts where I learned and practiced the game,“ said Dončić. “It’s an honour to be able to give back to my city and to my country that gave me so much and that I love.  The opportunity for kids to play on the same courts and pursue the same dreams I had is something I am excited about.”

As part of the celebration, Luka signed the court, officially dedicating it to the community, and local children were then invited to participate in basketball scrimmages, 3-on-3 games, dribble clinics and skills challenges. MVPs of the challenges were judged by Luka and others while Jordan Brand and BioSteel, who both work with Dončić provided prizes and equipment on the day as well.

“Foundations plays a very important role for 2K and our sports titles. We’re incredibly proud of the contributions made to communities, from court refurbishments to STEM programming. Since 2018, the foundation has completed over 40 community enrichment projects, reaching communities across the globe,” said David Ismailer, President of 2K. “We’re honoured to have created a program that plays a part in giving some of the world’s biggest athletes and talents, such as Luka, the chance to further connect with the communities that mean so much to them.”  

The new courts will be made available for the local community to use, just like Luka did when he grew up in the city, and could provide a stepping stone for the next generation of Slovenian basketballers. 

“Having Luka return to his hometown and dedicate these courts to his childhood town is such an honour. He continues to represent Slovenia globally, and we’re proud of what he has done for our country, not only at the Olympics but his efforts in the NBA,” said Zoran Janković, Mayor of the City of Ljubljana. “He loves Ljubljana, and the city and country love him.”

Over the last year, 2K Foundations has grown its efforts to support a number of projects, representing communities around the globe and showcasing the program’s expansion to include career and learning initiatives, expanded access to sports through golf clinics and tournaments, community enrichment opportunities through music and upgraded studios, and much more.
