1950s Los Angeles tycoon management game City Block Builder comes to Kickstarter

Gain rewards by funding the golden oldies soundtrack and further language options

Bangalore, India – September 30th, 2021 – Tentworks Interactive’ upcoming multi-business management game, City Block Builder, has come to Kickstarter, offering players a chance to gain exclusive rewards and deals while also expanding the scope of the game. With your help, City Block Builder will realize the glitz and glamour of 1950s Los Angeles like never before.

While already slated for an Early Access launch on PC in 2021, this crowdfunding effort will help Tentworks gain the rights to acquire and produce more music from the 1950s to make it a truly immersive experience, as well as localization in additional languages like German. Backers can receive such rewards as a hardcover art book, merch and collectibles, and concept art illustrations of themselves, and more.

City Block Builder is a mashup of deep tycoon management games with large-scale city-building elements. Set in Los Angeles during the 1950s, the game puts you in the shoes of a young, budding entrepreneur who is determined to build their business empire. Fresh off the victory of WWII, Los Angeles is the pop-culture capital of the world. With the glitz and glamour of Hollywood, designer shops, and finest cuisine money can buy, all under a canopy of clear blue skies, the City of Angels represents the “American Dream” at its most ideal.

City Block Builder is an open-world tycoon. Instead of being limited to just one business type, you can erect all manner of trades from cinemas, restaurants, bowling alleys, jazz clubs, drive-in theaters, parlors and more. Micromanage each business down to every detail. City Block Builder encourages players to find creative solutions to complex problems. Choose how to run and customize your entire business. Select which movies play when at your theatre; decide what food goes on your menu; book bands to play at your nightclub! You have full control of each business, from its layout to its furniture and lighting, and to ensure that the entrance makes optimal use of foot traffic in your bustling borough! Setting up the L.A.’s entertainment hub has never been so immersive!

Each detail of City Block Builder is brought to life in glorious detail through hand-drawn art paying homage to the era’s incredible culture. Movies, posters, comic books, and advertisements capture the look and feel of the 1950s with their bold, technicolor palette, dapper outfits, and neat slogans. Even the foliage has been extensively researched to be accurate to the time, changing dynamically with the seasons.

While City Block Builder’s campaign mode will take you from rags to riches as you micro and macro manage each monetary decision, there will also be a Sandbox Mode offering full freedom to create the Los Angeles of your dreams with no expense spared! Every decision you make will set you on a different path giving different players varying outcomes.

“We’ve always been fascinated with the history of Los Angeles; a bustling economy where people from all over the world came to realize the American dream,” said Jay Basani, CEO of Tentworks Interactive. “We want to bring this world to life with as much detail as possible, so to really nail that 50s flavor we’d like to include more licensed music and products. Of course, that costs money, which is why we’re launching this Kickstarter campaign.”

IN ROGUE LORDS, CHEATING IS PART OF THE GAME

A new roguelike launches today on Steam and the Epic Games Store

Lesquin, France, 30 September 2021 – The Devil makes his return in Rogue Lords, the turn-based roguelike developed by Cyanide and Leikir Studio. Published by NACON, the game is available from today on Steam and the Epic Games Store.

Rogue Lords takes you to a dark and mature world inspired by 18th century New England and the Salem witch trials. You play as the Devil. You have returned to the human world to take revenge against the Demon Hunters who subjected you to a heavy defeat 10 years ago.

Build your team from 9 infamous evil geniuses – Dracula, the Headless Horseman, Bloody Mary, The White Lady, Lilith, Hecate, Baron Samedi, and Frankenstein and his Creature are all available to serve you. Use the special talents of each Disciple, combine their powers to create devastating attacks, and defeat the members of the Sanctua Lumen, a new cult hunting down your followers.

A roguelike with deep gameplay and unique mechanics – During each run, you will build a team of three Disciples, progress through the game on a 3D map and choose the events you want to trigger. This includes:

  • Turn-based combat in which your Disciples will face the Demon Hunters and the Sanctua Lumen
  • Interactive events in which you choose the best way to give mortals excellent reasons to fear you
  • Encounters with the Grim Reaper, who will trade new relics and skills for the souls you have collected

Fights and events offer a choice of rewards, but you need to select them carefully based on your tactics.

Use the Devil’s powers to play by your own rules – In exchange for some of your own health, bend the rules in your favor. For example, you can alter the health bars of your Disciples and enemies, swap buffs and debuffs to suit your fighting strategy, open portals on the map to reach inaccessible areas, or even tip the odds in your favor during interactive events. Mastering this mechanic is essential for crushing your enemies at key moments. But be careful: there’s a cost, and losing all your health will bring your run to an end.

The Devil does not know the meaning of defeat – The turn-based battles are challenging and require mastery of the various gameplay mechanics. Your enemies are many, determined and well-trained. Luckily, the Devil plays by his own rules: acquire new skills, unlock new Disciples and return run after run until you impose your rule over all mortals.

Play as the Devil, find artefacts with legendary powers and regain your former strength to take revenge on the Demon Hunters in Rogue Lords, a roguelike in which cheating is part of the game.

Rogue Lords is now available on Steam and the Epic Games Store.
The game will arrive in early 2022 on Playstation ®4, Xbox One and Nintendo SwitchTM.

Celebrating 30 Years of Civilization with YOU The Great!

This year marks the 30th anniversary for Civilization. In celebration of this momentous milestone, Firaxis and 2K are commemorating three decades of greatness from Civilization players with new challenges, fun surprises and amazing offers.

Watch the Civilization 30th Anniversary Trailer – You the Great!

To kick off the celebration, Civilization creator Sid Meier penned a blog post over at Civilization.com on the series’ design and compelling human core. Please see below:

==

Hello everyone – Sid Meier here!

As many players have learned over the last 30 years, Civilization is famous for the “one more turn” phenomenon – where you sit down to play a quick game, and then suddenly look up at your clock to discover it’s already 2 A.M. Over the years, people have asked why “one more turn” has such an impact on players. The game designer’s answer here is that we give the player short-term goals, medium-term goals, and long-term goals that are all juggled at once in the player’s mind. You identify a place to settle a city, then figure out what technology or building or means of production you should pursue, and of course you’d have a grand vision of how big your civ would be or what type of victory condition you would try to achieve. Civilization is designed to keep pushing you forward – a new technology to discover, a new continent to explore, and you always have things to do.

But good game design doesn’t necessarily explain how we managed to reach 30 years of Civilization. To understand this, I think we need to dive deeper. At its core, what do players enjoy about Civilization? What differentiates the Civ player? It could be a love of culture or history, but there are other historical games out there. It could be that players appreciate the careful game design, but there are plenty of other well-designed games too.

In my opinion, it is all about what I think is a deeply human trait – the desire to create, shape, and nurture the path of humanity for the better. To have the grand vision and the tools to make that vision a reality. All games are some form of power wish fulfilment, enabling you to do something you can’t do in real life. Some are more fantastical, where you can use your magical powers to defeat dragons. Others simulate real life, but take the risk of bodily injury away – why not attempt to take a corner at excess speeds when racing?

In Civilization, you can lead your people to prosperity by waging peace, not war. Or you can create a civilization that values art and culture above everything. You can found a religion and spread it around the world, and you can take actions to slow and even prevent climate change.

And it’s really with you at the center that we wanted to celebrate this amazing milestone. For 30 years, you, the player, have been at the center of this franchise – taking that power to shape humanity, to create a better or worse world, to be the ruler of your very own empire to stand the test of time. You have reenacted history, roleplayed as leaders, rewritten the script completely and built better worlds for your people. In Civilization, you made cities that surpass reality in their efficiency. You’ve become the master diplomat and the scourge to your enemies.

We want to shine the spotlight on you and the unique way you become truly great in Civilization. Just as much as this is an incredible moment for Civilization, this is really your moment.

All hail YOU the Great!

The Latest in GTA Online: Triple Rewards on Lamar Contact Missions, Land Races, The Return of Offense Defense, Discounts, and More

Triple Rewards on Lamar Contact Missions and All Land Races This Week – Plus, Offense Defense Returns with 2X GTA$ and RP Bonuses, and More

Lamar Davis is one of Los Santos’ most infamous stick-up artists — he’s always looking for a score, and he doesn’t care if he has to crack a couple unsuspecting eggs to make an omelet. Help Lamar out by giving him a call on his iFruit and earn 3X the usual GTA$ and RP all week long.

3X GTA$ and RP on Land Races

So, you’ve built yourself a fine-tuned ride with all sorts of bells and whistles; all that’s left is to test it against some flesh-and-blood competition: whip around the track, use your muscle to force your foes into a hard shoulder, and make your way across the finish line however you see fit. All Land Races are doling out Triple Rewards through October 6, so it’ll be worth your while whatever the outcome.

Classic Modes Return with 2X GTA$ and RP on Offense Defense

This week marks the return of classic Adversary Modes Sumo, Inch By Inch, Keep the Pace, and Offense Defense to GTA Online for a limited time.

Offense Defense is offering Double Rewards over the next seven days to allcomers. Each team’s Runner competes to be the first over the line after collecting each Checkpoint, while each team’s Blocker is faced with a choice — protect your Runner or leave them wide open as you put the squeeze on your opposition.

Win or lose, all players walk away with 2X GTA$ and RP on the returning Offense Defense Adversary Series, all week long.

Sea Races and Parachuting Jobs are also returning for a limited time, allowing those who have yet to unlock the “Numero Uno” Trophy/Achievement a chance to complete it. In order to free up space and to assist with player matchmaking, select GTA Online jobs now cycle in and out of the game over time.

2X GTA$ on Time Trials

Sometimes human competition is boorish and crude: hip-checking one another into the shoulder of the road and swapping paint is messy business. Racing as fast as possible against the clock itself is a way to push your limits and test your skills. Some might say recklessness and wanton abandon are basic prerequisites for Time Trials.

This week’s featured Time Trial on the dirt roads of Calafia Way is paying out double GTA$ for the next seven days. Floor it — that way you can brag about your new personal best time down at the LS Car Meet.

Car Meet Prize Ride and Challenge

This week’s Prize Ride will go to any LS Car Meet members who place in the Top 3 in 7 Pursuit Series races: those determined daredevils can add the Emperor Vectre to one of their Garages, free of charge.

Featured Vehicles on the Test Track
If you’re looking to expand your fleet, pay a visit to the LS Car Meet’s Test Track to give the Dinka Jester RR, Annis Euros, and Vapid Dominator ASP a ride around the painted track, challenge friends and foes alike to a Scramble, or see how the vehicles fare against the clock in a Time Trial.

This Week on the Podium: Übermacht Rebla GTS

Stop by the lobby of The Diamond Casino & Resort anytime this week and spin the Lucky Wheel. You’ll walk away with GTA$, RP, clothes, snacks, or a mystery prize. If you’re really lucky, you’ll roll away behind the wheel of the Übermacht Rebla GTS, a German-made sport-utility vehicle that hides a muscular rage underneath its sophisticated, demure exterior. Go ahead, rev that engine, and let the animal out. You won’t regret it.

Discounts:

You’re better than standard issue. Pull up to Benny’s and give your slab a discounted hydraulic face-lift — all Hydraulics are 50% off this week — and enjoy friends and family discounts on custom vehicle upgrades, including 30% off the Albany Manana Custom, as well as the vehicles featured below:
