3D Realms’ Retro Horror FPS CULTIC Drops Updated Demo For Steam Next Fest

3D Realms’ Retro Horror FPS CULTIC Drops Updated Demo For Steam Next Fest

Revamped Survival Mode Inspired By Resident Evil 4’s “The Mercenaries”, Improved Graphics, Weapon Upgrades

KANSAS — 14 June, 2022CULTIC, the horror-themed shooter with classic visuals and modern combat developed by Jasozz Games and published by 3D Realms, today releases an updated demo for Steam Next Fest featuring an overhauled playable map, wave-based Survival Mode, refined combat and graphics, and weapon upgrades.

Attempting to uncover the truth behind recent kidnappings and gruesome murders, a disgraced detective follows a trail of clues and discovers a fortified compound in an asylum thought to be abandoned. Barely two steps out of his vehicle, he is ambushed from the shadows. He awakens in a mass grave, wounds fresh, but strangely unbleeding. Struggling to understand his inexplicable resurrection, he rises to crush the cult and stop their forsaken rituals.

Today’s demo includes a revamped Survival mode inspired by Resident Evil 4’s “The Mercenaries” and Killing Floor, complete with multiple difficulties and global leaderboards. Purchase weapons, ammo, health and armor between waves, then blast cultists, skeletons, armored knights, ghosts, and other outlandish enemies from CULTIC’s campaign. Play aggressively or stick to cover, but watch the timer or it’s “game over”. Survival Mode will include more maps at full launch.

The newly-revamped intro level has never looked better. Start with nothing but a hatchet and grit and tear through the cult, one zealot at a time. CULTIC’s overhauled sprites and voxels hearken back to ‘90 shooters, but introduces contemporary combat filled with headshots, improvisation, and fluid movement. Dash through bullets, slide past opponents, then smash their faces with chairs and other objects in an interactive environment.

Scavenge for Weapon Parts throughout CULTIC’s demo to upgrade mid-century firearms like the C96, STEN Mk.V, and a sawed-off coach gun. Each weapon offers unique upgrades ranging from higher-caliber shots to more accurate aiming and alternate fire modes. Survive untold horrors amplified by a gothic-orchestral soundtrack, and unearth the truth behind the cult – one shotgun shell at a time.

CULTIC will be available on PC later this year. Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch versions will come after. Follow Jasozz Games for development updates, as well as 3D Realms on Twitch, Facebook, and YouTube for up to date information.

PRIME MATTER CELEBRATES ITS FIRST ANNIVERSARY

PRIME MATTER CELEBRATES ITS FIRST ANNIVERSARY

The Prime Matter showcase returns on June 17, bringing new updates, news and gameplay for current and upcoming titles

Larkspur, Calif. (June 13, 2022) – Nothing says “happy birthday” like a neuron-tingling, sensation-overloading 30-minute gameplay extravaganza as Prime Matter – Koch Media’s premium publishing label – celebrates its first birthday.

A year ago, we launched Prime Matter and said we would release games from all corners of the world, giving developers a chance to show their talent and passion globally.

One year later – amidst challenges both global and local – we’ve released great games from studios in North America, Asia, Europe and South America. We formed alliances with the infamous robbers of Payday, became fearless intrepid space explorers in DOLMEN, reveled in the diesel-punk destruction of Iron Harvest, lost our backpack countless times in Outward, licked one too many faces in Encased and enforced Ranger Law across the world of Wasteland 3, and our journey is only beginning.

Prime Matter has even more great games on deck. We’ll introduce you to megalomaniac AIs in System Shock and scare the yoga pants off you with the spiritual cult horror of The Chant, both of which are coming soon. Down the road we’ll deliver even more medieval action, a few bank jobs, chilling suspense in space, a kingdom to save and all the bear [not a typo] necessities to keep gamers delighted for years to come.

None of this would have been possible without two groups of people: The amazing teams behind the games who breathe life into these projects, and YOU, our amazing players who make it all worthwhile.

Celebrate the Prime Matter Anniversary with a new Stream-Team, new show format, along with gameplay, gameplay, and more gameplay

To celebrate our auspicious day, Prime Matter’s regular streamer Luci Verdalla will host a 30-minute gameplay fest, followed by a live Q&A with fellow stream-teamer Steve Coleman on June 17, 2022. Showtime begins at 10:00 AM PDT // 1:00 PM EDT.

“We look forward to welcoming everyone to celebrate our anniversary as we showcase all of our upcoming and exciting new titles. After 225 hours of streams, 770,000 minutes watched, 32,000 unique viewers and 30,000 chat messages over the past year, we’d like to thank all of those who have been with us from the start and shown us boundless support, love, and memes. To those who will tune in for the first time; make yourself comfortable, because you’re in for a ride!”

Tune into the showcase on June 17 at 10:00 AM PDT // 1:00 PM EDT on Twitch to join in the birthday excitement – https://www.twitch.tv/primemattergg

NEW ZEALAND VIDEO GAME SALES CONTINUE UPWARD TRAJECTORY

NEW ZEALAND VIDEO GAME SALES CONTINUE UPWARD TRAJECTORY

Auckland, NEW ZEALAND – 14 June 2022 – The demand for video games in New Zealand continues to explode according to consumer sales data released today by the Interactive Games and Entertainment Association (IGEA).  In 2021, Kiwis spent over $540 million on video games and consoles.

Video game hardware sales were almost $71 million dollars, leading to strong software sales in both digital and physical formats.  New Zealand gamers are mostly purchasing products in a digital format and also love mobile games with sales exceeding $197 million in 2021.

IGEA has recently updated agreements with data suppliers sourcing consumer sales from GSD and Newzoo++.  GSD reports on major publisher and hardware sales in both physical and digital format across numerous international markets, while Newzoo reports on game sales data globally. Working with IGEA members, we ensured both sources offer reliable and consistent consumer sales data from around the world that identifies global trends.   Newzoo also provides subscription data which is essential when looking at how subscription services impact the way Australians are now playing games.

Tom Wijman, Head of Market Analysis & Forecasting at Newzoo said, “New Zealand’s market for digital PC and console games grew again year on year to $225 million. The growing install base for game consoles as well as further lockdown measures lead too oan overagll growthi in sales for 2021.  The market for mobile games grew faster than any other segment, but unlike the global average, New Zealand’s PC and console markets are still larger than its mobile market.”

Aidan Sakiris, ANZ Territory Manager and Senior Analyst at GSD contributes, “Total New Zealand video game spending was in growth for 2021 driven by a sizeable increase in Hardware sales year-on-year. This was largely due to the heightened availability of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S throughout the year, but also the increasing relevance of Nintendo Switch in the New Zealand market. Software charts comprised of new releases including FIFA 22 and Far Cry 6 as the top performers, but also select titles generally being sold alongside new hardware purchases such as Spiderman: Miles Morales on PS5 as well as Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.”

Ron Curry, CEO of IGEA says “New Zealanders have long had a love for playing video games and continue to embrace playing games in all formats.  According to our Digital New Zealand 2022 (DNZ22) report, over 3.7 million New Zealanders play games.  Games are played not only for fun and entertainment but for social connection and education with consumer sales growing accordingly.  Playing games is part of every day life for the majority of Kiwis ”

Hell Pie Takes Bad Taste To The Next Level On Console & PC on July 21st

Grab the horns of Nate, the “Demon of Bad Taste”, in recipe that blends the obscene with old-school 3D platforming

Dueren, Germany – June 13th, 2022 – Via a new release date trailer that debuted today at the Guerrilla Collective showcase, Headup and Sluggerfly announced that that their obscene 3D platformer, Hell Pie, will be cooked and ready to serve on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Switch and PC on July 21st. This old-school-inspired 3D platformer takes bad taste to the next level in an adventure full of insane environments, repugnant characters and fun grapple-based platforming.

In Hell Pie, you grab the horns of Nate, the ‘Demon of Bad Taste’. Your task is to gather the disgusting ingredients for Satan’s infamous birthday pie. Venture out into the overworld and do whatever it takes to ensure those ingredients are secured in time, or there’ll be hell to pay!

Luckily Nate isn’t alone on this quest, with his ‘pet’ angel Nugget ready and able to offer support. Nugget offers his holy insight when needed but, more importantly, is chained to Nate, so he can be used as a grappling hook or swung around as a weapon. Nate can also equip horns he finds across the world to give him new hellish abilities, from charging through enemies and boulders , to gliding through the air.

Together, Nate and Nugget will explore wild environments, meet tons of unsavoury enemies and characters, and witness some truly shocking sights in the seriously twisted take on the classic mascot platformer.

“Hell Pie is a game that we’ve had a lot of fun making and we can’t wait to share all the obscenity and silliness with the world at large when it comes to PlayStation, Xbox, Switch and PC on July 21st,” said Christian Patorra, Sluggerfly’s CEO. “We’re sure anyone who shares our love of classic 3D platforming is going to like what we are cooking up!”

The Fridge is Red Terrifies PC in Q4 2022

The Fridge is Red Terrifies PC in Q4 2022

tinyBuild helps horrifying game jam hit transform into full horror anthology

SEATTLE — 11 June 2022 — The Fridge is Red, the first-person horror anthology series with PS1-inspired visuals from developer 5WORD Team and publisher tinyBuild, haunts Steam later this year as revealed today during the Guerrilla Collective Digital Showcase. Download the demo of this macabre experience right now ahead of Steam Next Fest, featuring the first pieces of the anthology.

Frank cannot pry his eyes away from the red fridge in his basement as it emanates strange voices and ominous sounds. Frank wants to find his missing daughter; Laurie’s notes on the floor suggest that this demonic appliance somehow did something to her. Frank searches for answers to access the unopenable icebox, but he cannot look away, for every time he does, the red fridge moves in closer, emitting malice with every shake and scratch.

Frank’s tale represents just one of multiple terror-filled experiences populating The Fridge is Red. Unravel the mystery of the red refrigerator and the mental anguish of those who cross its path across a variety of stories including haunted hospital halls, a creepy church graveyard, snowy highways and other locations. Uncover horrifying revelations while contending with unspeakable dread tormenting those seeking the truth.

The Fridge is Red combines the aesthetics of the PlayStation 1 era’s horror games, combining early 3D with modern effects to replicate the memories those classics conjured. Drab and rusted colorways set a malevolent tone for different environments, all explored from a first-person perspective, set to haunting background music and dismal sounds to create an unnerving environment.

5WORD Team, creators of Death Crown, startled the world with their Epic MegaJam entry DO NOT TAKE YOUR EYES OFF THE RED FRIDGE, which earned attention for its introduction to a haunting universe inspired by PS1 horror classics. Now the team partners with acclaimed publisher tinyBuild to bring the full anthology to life under a shortened title: The Fridge is Red.

“We’ve explored countless ideas when participated in game jams and prototyping concepts in our own free time, however we never saw any developer receive as an enthusiastic response to a demo as we did with DO NOT TAKE YOUR EYES OFF THE RED FRIDGE,” said Artem Kudriashov, lead designer, 5WORD Team. “ After witnessing the terrified reactions and demand for a full game from gamers as well as streamers, we began considering giving the people what they called for, but when tinyBuild said they would help us realize our vision, we knew we had to bring the world The Fridge is Red.”

The Fridge is Red releases for Steam for PC later this year, and will support English, French, German, Japanese, Brazilian Portuguese, Italian, Spanish, Russian, Korean and Simplified Chinese language text.

To learn more about the game visit tinyBuild’s official website, and follow the publisher on Twitter and YouTube, and join the 5WORD Discord.
