Prepare To Battle With Tinkertown’s New Combat & Classes Update

Charge-attack, weapon scaling and new stats among features that bring depth and balance to combat

Gothenburg, Sweden – July 19th, 2022 – Battling monsters alongside friends in Tinkertown gets a whole lot more interesting today with the release of the new Combat & Classes update. The update adds a host of new features that bring depth to combat and character-building, makes fighting monsters more exciting and builds on the previous NPC & Housing update with even more quests to do and NPCs to meet.

The update gives players a new charge-attack, allowing you to unleash a powerful attack that will deal more damage and may have a different range, depending on your weapon of choice. Speaking of weapons, you will have four new ones at your disposal with the Desert Mage’s Staff, Frost Mage’s Staff, Oak Dagger and Ice Bow, along with new armour in the Mage and Ranger sets.

The addition of a knockback function that applies to players and monsters alike, monsters that now attack more aggressively, re-balanced monster resistances and immunities, and improved player-scaling will make using these new weapons and skills more fun that ever before.

Tinkertown players can also expect much more depth when it comes to customising their characters thanks to this update. Along with new Dexterity and Magic stats added to the game, gear will now use all attributes to determine a player’s stats. In the case of weapons, weapon-scaling has been introduced, creating a web of interesting considerations when it comes to how you build your character.

The Combat & Classes update also continues to build on the new systems introduced in the last update, the NPC & Housing update. Four new NPCs are added in the new update along with 20 new quests for you to undertake! The game will continue to grow with more updates planned.

Delay to the release date of Century: Age of Ashes on PS4 and PS5 to Summer 2022.

BORDEAUX, FRANCE – July 18th 2022 — Playwing are sadly having to make a slight delay on Century: Age Of Ashes landing on PS4 & PS5 consoles until Summer 2022. More details will follow shortly.

“First, please accept our humble apologies. Some of you might be wondering why this delay is happening so close to release; please see below for further details.

Pushing back a release is never pleasant, even more so when we know there is a huge number of players who are wanting to play on PlayStation platforms, and this will most likely be a turning point in the life of Century: Age Of Ashes. Passing certification on PlayStation – what we call ‘going gold’ – right off the back of the Xbox One release and the launch of the debut season, ‘A Shadow Over Skeld’ is a tough challenge. Therefore, we are going to need a little more time to ensure we meet the quality standards to ship on these two platforms.

We know not sharing an exact release date may raise some concerns, but rest assured, bringing Century: Age Of Ashes is our next big release.  Our team are currently hard at work debugging the PS4 & PS5 version, while also polishing up the recently released Xbox One version. Season 1 is also being worked on for its balancing issues and prepping for future content. This is now the last stretch before Century takes flight on PlayStation, which means it’s just a matter of days before we share a release date with you all.

Thank you for your continued patience and support of Century: Age Of Ashes. The Century Team.”

Nightmare Frames Review

Nightmare Frames

Developer: Postmodern Adventures
Publisher: Postmodern Adventures
Platforms: PC (reviewed)
Release Date: June 16, 2022
Price: $12.99 USD – Available Here

Overview

Nightmare Frames is a game that presents itself as a “supernatural thriller.” It is Postmodern Adventures’ first paid game as well as their most ambitious project yet. The Spanish studio specializes in making games that look and play like old-school point-and-click adventure games.

Story

Nightmare Frames is set in Hollywood in 1985. Players follow the story of Alan Goldberg, a screenwriter writing horror movies despite disliking them. One day he meets Helen Westmore, a woman everybody calls “the sister of mercy” because she can make anyone’s dreams come true thanks to her money and power. But nothing in life is free, and people have to do things for her in exchange for her services.

In Alan’s case, to have everything he desires, he must find a lost movie made by an iconic horror film maker who disappeared years ago. Most of the game is centered around Alan’s quest for this lost film.

The game is split between three main parts, and there are a lot of different characters to talk to. All of the conversations with the characters sound natural, and it is engaging to get to know them better.

Something that can be a downside to some is the pacing of the game, especially because the beginning is slow. Out of the five to six hours of total playtime required to beat the game for the first time, the first hour isn’t at all related to the mystery of the lost movie. Thankfully, the rest of the game has a much better pacing and once the main story picks up, the game becomes very pleasant. The elements of horror are introduced slowly but this isn’t an issue as they are very good and believable in a way. At first, the main character doesn’t believe the supernatural events that are happening around him but after a while he finally accepts them because they aren’t any rational explanations to what he is witnessing.

A lot of effort was put into the world-building. There are references to old pop culture as well as many references to slasher movies of the 70s and the 80s which fit perfectly with the game’s theme and time period.

In conclusion, the story is well written despite the fact that the length of the game is on the shorter side.

Gameplay

Nightmare Frames is, first and foremost, a narrative game, players follow the story as it unravels. Like in most point-and-click adventure games, the gameplay mainly consists of going around places, talking to different NPCs, looking for various objects, and resolving multiple puzzles.

The game really looks and feels like an older point-and-click adventure game but with a modern twist. The developers were very committed since even the game user interface has that old-school vibe. Despite that it is very easy to navigate through the user interface.

Solving puzzles is essential in order to progress in the game, but there isn’t a lot compared to other games of the same genre. The solutions to the puzzles, except for one, are very logical and easy to deduce. It’s a good thing because it means that they don’t interfere with the game’s progression. The story and the puzzles complement each other well.

However, the lack of puzzles also means that the game isn’t very interactive compared to similar games, which might be a letdown for some hardcore fans of the point-and-click adventure genre.

Visuals

Nightmare Frames’ graphics consists of pixel art. Following the storyline, the visuals become more and more dark and horrific as the game goes on.

The backgrounds all look really good. They are very colorful even during scenes that happen at night, and the way the lights are represented is impressive. This is an example of something that’s definitively modern and that couldn’t have been achieved with older technology.

However, the characters don’t look as good, and some tend to look a bit similar. Thankfully during conversations, images of the characters appear with a much more detailed model of themselves, making it easier to visualize how they look like. Overall, the visuals look good and it is easy to understand what each asset is representing.

Audio

Both the soundtrack and the sound effects are great. All of the songs of Nightmare Frames are very memorable, and it’s clear that a lot of work was put into the sound effects. They were thoughtfully picked and edited to help players get immersed in the game. For instance, in one location called “Joe’s Diner” there’s a TV that is turned on with music playing, and the sound really feels like it’s coming from an old TV thanks to the way it was edited.

Overall

Nightmare Frames excels at what it is trying to be. It is a great old-school supernatural thriller point-and-click adventure game. But a few downsides, mainly the pacing and the fact that the game isn’t very interactive outside of talking to the characters, unfortunately means that it might not be for everyone.

About Scathe

Scathe is an adrenaline-fueled, classic FPS with big guns and even bigger demons. You play as Scathe, Enforcer of the legions of Hell, forged from the earth by the Divine Creator themself. And you, like your fallen kin before you, must prove your worth by navigating a deviously crafted maze, entangled with demonic evil at every twist and turn. So, grab your Hellhammer, lock’n’load, and get ready to unleash your almighty fury!

Key Features

  • ESCAPE THE MAZE – Your task is simple; collect the three Hellstones and get to the centre of the maze. Choose your own path by navigating expertly handcrafted zones – each filled with danger around every corner. Collect runes the need to progress, and smite all that stand in your way.
  • BULLET HELL – Scathe is not your ordinary FPS… Get ready for bullet-hell where you must dodge countless waves of deadly projectiles. By utilising Scathe’s incredible speed, you can dash through attacks, leaving you unharmed. Keeping on the move is the key to survival.
  • LOCK’N’LOAD – Rip through your enemies with Scathe’s insanely powerful arsenal of weapons, each equipped with a devastating secondary fire. Spew hellfire with the Hot Hatch or slice through endless evil with the buzz saw launcher, Bow Blade.
  • DROP IN/DROP OUT ONLINE MULTIPLAYER – Scathe will support full cross-play online multiplayer where players can drop-in and drop-out at any time. Already lost deep within the labyrinth? Call upon up to three friends to join the fight. Choose your kin wisely, because in Scathe, everyone shares the same pool of lives.
