Players can experience all-new innovations across offence, defence, badges, builds, takeovers, and AI gameplay

2K today revealed the newest gameplay enhancements coming to NBA® 2K23, highlighted by new skill moves, animations, and player builds that provide a more authentic and hyper-real experience. 

“We value community feedback when deciding how to bring each version of NBA 2K to life, and this year’s gameplay enhancements reflect many of the changes our community was calling for the most,” said Mike Wang, Gameplay Director at Visual Concepts. “From focusing on how players can attack the basket, to more realistic on-ball defence and a new tiered badge system, all the features we’ve brought to life in the game this year will create a more authentic gameplay experience that is enjoyable for everyone.”

NBA 2K23 introduces a variety of new gameplay innovations to elevate the competitive intensity in all facets, including: 

• Shooting: This year’s major change is the addition of shooting attributes, which give each signature jump shot its own unique shooting stats that help determine its effectiveness. There are also five new shot meters to choose from, with 15 more that can be unlocked through Seasons over the coming year;
• Pro Stick Enhancements: New Gesture Combos have been added to the Pro Stick, introducing a lot of new weapons for both shooting and ball handling for playmakers. Dunking also received new commands, ensuring players dunk exactly how they want without accidentally firing off an unexpected skill dunk;
• Skill Moves & Adrenaline Boosts: New gesture combos give players even more ball handling and shooting options for their offensive arsenal. Additionally, a new feature to prevent overdribbling is the concept of Adrenaline Boosts. Boosts are consumed every time a player performs a hard go or explosive sprint launch, and once their three boosts are gone, players will notice their speed and acceleration decrease significantly for the remainder of the possession;
• Defence: Defensive gameplay includes major updates aimed at creating more realistic on-ball defence and shot blocking, as well as steals and ball strips. This year, blocks have been tuned to a more realistic level, leading to more predictable outcomes, with the right players making appropriate stops when timing their block attempts well. There’s also a distinct improvement in ball security for good dunkers, and much more; 
• Badges: Introducing a brand new tiered badge system for players on PlayStation® 5 (PS5™) and Xbox Series X|S, there will be 16 badges per attribute category: eight in Tier 1, four in Tier 2, and four in Tier 3, with the basic idea being that players need to equip a certain number of badges in the lower tiers before they can equip badges in the highest;  
• Takeovers: While the primary and secondary Takeovers remain the same from previous games, Team Takeover has been redesigned. Team Takeover works as a cooperative team system with the entire team sharing a single meter. The new design makes a lot more sense and does a better job representing what it means to be hot as a team and to take over the game as a unit;
• AI Gameplay: PS5 and Xbox Series X|S players will notice improved AI ball handling, pick and roll execution, defensive tendencies, and coaching decisions.

Long-awaited Dead Cells “Enter the Panchaku” Update Now Live on PC, Reveals Future Update Roadmap, and Yes, You Can Now Pet the…Pets

Evil Empire confirms updates planned well into 2023, reworks 29 weapons, skills and mutations for rebalancing, tweaks Legendary items and more

Bordeaux, France (July 27, 2022) – Evil Empire today announced that Update 30, the “Enter the Panchaku” update is now live on PC, coming soon to consoles. “What is a Panchaku?” you ask? It’s a weapon like nunchakus, except with frying pans that crits on enemies that are facing you and provides some wickedly entertaining combos. This item was first glimpsed in The Bad Seed trailer, and has been a fan request since then. You’re welcome. A rework of 29 items in the game (weapons, skills and mutations) rebalances things throughout, and the game receives the iconic Magic Bow from popular roguelite Soul Knight in a cool weapons crossover. Lastly, but extremely importantly, you can now pet all of your pets in the game. 

The Enter the Panchaku trailer showcases the weapon at its finest, complete with offering a new outfit inspired by the trailers from Bobby Digital that includes flaming pink hair. Sweet. 

Fans will enjoy (or not, depending) a new rebalancing that tackles 29 weapons, skills and mutations in the game. Every so often these are refreshed to keep the variety element strong – a good roguelite should offer players difficult choices instead of relying on the same 2-3 weapons every time. Variety in a roguelite is the spice of life. 

On this same note, Evil Empire has done away with old legendary items and instead introduced legendary affixes. There are a few brand-new affixes, including specific ones for certain items. They have all been hand-picked and should have synergy with the item’s gameplay. Legendaries now become stronger than your typical weapon by adding an extra, complimentary gameplay element instead of just upping the damage. There is also now a new legendary-only option in Custom Mode which makes all items legendary.

Lastly, you can now interact with all of your companions in between biomes by long-pressing the interact button. This interaction has no tangible benefit other than making you feel warm and fuzzy.

Evil Empire also clarified in their dev notes today that Dead Cells has updates planned through 2023 and shared some of the goals the team is trying to hit – including a new boss rush mode. While Evil Empire has continued to grow and has other projects in the works currently under wraps and Motion Twin is also head down on creating its next game, the team assured fans that even after 30 updates, Dead Cells is still considered “mid product lifecycle” which in dev-speak translates to the game remaining a priority internally and that some excellent new features are in the works.

This samurai action title follows student, Tsumugi Tamaori, summoned in her sleep to the historic Sengoku period. Tsumugi must team up with new friends and use her amazing sword skills to defeat the undead evil that has been unearthed at smoldering Honnoji Temple. SAMURAI MAIDEN follows the story of a high school student who falls asleep after a boring day of history lessons, waking alongside historical figure, Nobunaga Oda, known as the first great unifier in Japan. The two find themselves at the burning Honnoji Temple where the underworld has opened. Having trained in the art of sword fighting as a hobby, Tsumugi is suddenly put to the test in actual battle as she is gifted the evil warding blade by the desperate Nobunaga Oda, who steps into the underworld to put an end to the calamity. Even Tsumugi, an admittedly poor history student, recognizes Oda as the hero of the Sengoku period and understands she must rise to this bizarre occasion.

In SAMURAI MAIDEN, players can look forward to slaughtering mobs of undead enemies with Tsumugi’s powerful swordsmanship. With stylish combination attacks and strong counters, Tsumugi is well equipped to slay groups of zombies as well as tough bosses—but as a student from modern times, she is not capable of fighting her way out of the underworld!

However, Tsumugi is not SAMURAI MAIDEN‘s only fighter: she encounters three friendly ninjas at the Honnoji Temple, known as The Gokage, who decide to brave the underworld with her. The Gokage is comprised of Iyo, a hardworking ninja with a variety of tools, Hagane, an older ninja with a mechanical body, and Komimi, a genius with a unique jutsu. Through their travel, the team will quarrel, laugh, and fight alongside each other, forging new bonds in the process.

In their journey, players will be able to use the “Gokage System,” which allows a rapid combination of Tsumugi’s sword style and The Gokage’s powerful ninjutsu. From the samurai’s slashing and piercing attacks—to the ninjas’ wire arm, freezing yin yang jutsu, and various kunai attacks, players will be able to utilize these two types of offense to fight through the hoard of undead enemies.

Additionally, the group has unlockable special abilities: when Tsumugi and The Gokage’s spirits are heightened they can unlock these abilities by locking lips. However, they will need to build trust in each other before these special unified abilities can be unleashed in battle.

Cut through the evils in the Sengoku period while establishing relationships with the Sengoku maidens as the temple burns. The samurai slices while the ninjas dice to destroy the underworld of Honnoji Temple—will they be able to rewrite history?

Gamers become GameChangers for the annual 2022 Starlight fundraiser

25 July 2022, SYDNEY – Starlight Children’s Foundation announced some of the big names that will lead this year’s GameChangers online fundraising event, which will run from 1 to 31 August. Last year over AU$324,000 was raised, beating the $250,000 goal. This year’s goal is to raise $350,000 to help bring happiness, joy and laughter to 9,000 sick kids when they need it most. Donations can be made through gamechangers.org.au.

GameChangers invites streamers and content creators to sign up to raise funds and awareness for Starlight just by streaming. The initiative encourages streamers to entertain and create challenges with their community to incentivise donations and continue to raise awareness for the cause.

Three of the biggest fundraisers who participated in 2021 will be returning again this year, hoping to raise even more than they did in 2022. Pestily’s community contributed close to $114,000, whilst JuicdEnergy and DreadedGM raised over $40,000 and $20,000 from their communities respectively. 

“Starlight GameChangers is a great opportunity to help seriously ill children throughout Australia. You can make a massive difference and it’s a really fun thing to be part of. Not only was I able to brighten the lives of sick kids, my participation also opened up a lot of doors for me as a content creator. I encourage all streamers to jump on board and support Starlight,” shared Pestily who has over 1.2 million followers on Twitch.
