RuneScape’s Fort Forinthry Season Continues Today with the Idyllic Woodcutter’s Grove Update

Exactly how much wood could a woodcut cut?

CAMBRIDGE, United Kingdom June 19, 2023 RuneScape’s Fort Forinthry season has just received a brand-new update with Woodcutter’s Grove, launching today. This arboreal addition to the Fort Forinthry storyline introduces a brand-new training area for woodcutting, a new best-in-slot hatchet, and a shedload of woodcutting perks to enhance RuneScape’s most relaxing skill.

Once the Woodcutter’s Grove is built, it becomes a one-stop shop for all woodcutting needs, including a trove of diverse trees for pro woodcutters and budding arborists alike. Notably, this content will unlock the most convenient Elder Tree location in the game, making the journey from level 1-99 a much less daunting task to take on.

This update allows players a chance to unlock the best-in-class Tier 80 Imcando Hatchet. By collecting four fragments of these legendary woodcutting tools throughout their woodcutting ventures, players can combine them with the Dragon Hatchet to make this powerful new skilling item.

Woodcutting is one of RuneScape’s most iconic skills. Not to be underestimated, it gives players access to vital resources required to build everything from deadly arrows to mighty forts. Woodcutting is also a number of players’ first skill that they fully invest in, so there is a nostalgic appeal to the humble Woodcutter’s Grove.

Other additions to RuneScape from Woodcutter’s Grove include general improvements to the woodcutting and fletching skills, upgradable wood boxes for storing logs, and the introduction of Wood Spirits, which provide an additional log to each successfully felled tree.

Fort Forinthry: Woodcutter’s Grove is members’ content. For more information, please visit the RuneScape website. RuneScape is available now on PC, Steam, iOS, and Android, complete with cross-platform progression and play on PC and mobile.

Note to Editors

Fort Forinthry: Woodcutter’s Grove requires the completion of New Foundations, Murder on the Border, and Unwelcome Guests to Tier 1, as well as level 10 Slayer and 50 Construction.

“Wake up guardian, wake up last savior. All the high humans have fallen. You are the last hope of this land. Bring order and wipe out chaos and darkness. The unspeakable has occurred, the unholy marriage of a High-human and darkness seed.”

New York, United States, Monday 19th June, 2023: Fairyship Games, a small US-based developer with a focus on narrative-based titles, is excited to confirm forthcoming action-adventure RPG Testament: The Order of High Human will launch on Steam and Epic Store for PC on Thursday 13th July 2023.

Watch the brand new release date trailer here!

To celebrate the news, as well as releasing a brand new trailer – which you can watch here – the first publicly available demo of Testament: The Order of High Human will hit Steam Next Fest for free later today, opening up more than an hour of the game as it currently stands to anyone who wants to take it on.

Also in development for Xbox and PlayStation, Testament: The Order of High Human is an original first-person, story-based adventure RPG where players will find themselves taking on the role of Aran – the king of High humans in the land of Tessara – as he serves as guardian of the realm.

Aran has been betrayed by his brother, Arva, and robbed of his powers as the world around him is plunged into darkness and overrun by ominous creatures. Players will be tasked with regaining his powers and confronting Arva to restore Tessara to its former glory, upgrading his sword, bow, and magic abilities as they go to develop their own unique fighting style.

Testament: The Order of High Human is a tale of a fallen king’s journey to save his realm from darkness and destruction, which pays homage to leagues of different games and genres those at the 15-people strong studio grew up playing.

“It’s amazing to be able to unveil Testament: The Order of High Human’s launch date after the best part of five years in development,” offers co-creator and studio co-founder Moe Naderi. “The reaction to the first trailer we put out last month has been immense, and we hope players are going to like our ‘melting pot’ approach of tipping Testament’s hat to some of the biggest adventure games from the last decade in play.”

In Testament: The Order of High Human you will:

  • Experience an immersive combat style based around three different approaches, each one designed to offer its own unique traits that allow the player to rely on it to get through the majority of play.
  • Master sword game-play with a variation of destructive and elemental combos.
  • Take charge of 16 magic abilities including single-target spells, traps, Area of Effect (AoE attacks), Damage per Second (DPS), and defensive spells.
  • Utilize a magical bow with four different types of arrows such as a normal arrow, a ricochet arrow, an explosive arrow, and a passthrough arrow.
  • Take advantage of a grand XP and upgrade system that motivates players to fully explore every land and dungeon.
  • Experience unique gameplay areas with exciting platforming that reminds you of the nostalgic excitement from retro 2D platformers.
  • Take charge of a brand new ‘Eclipse System’ based on gameplay entities called eyes of darkness and it consists of 3 different gameplay mechanics that can work separately or together to deliver exciting encounters and challenges.
  • Use more than 18 consumables at the player’s disposal. These craftable items can affect the player’s health and mana or create enhancements to the player’s belongings and surroundings. Using them together can deliver advantages to help players shape their own playing style.
  • Take on more than 40 main and side-quests, carefully crafted and relevant to the game’s consistent storytelling.
  • Experience strong and engaging storytelling with a nonlinear narrative style.

Testament: The Order of High Human has been in development for the past four and a half years by a small team of 15 people with a passion for storytelling. The game will launch on Steam and Epic Store for PC on Thursday 13th July 2023 for $34.99/€34.99/£29.99. Details on the PlayStation and Xbox launches will follow.

Etrian Odyssey Origins Collection Review

Etrian Odyssey Origins Collection

Developer: Atlus
Publisher: Sega
Platforms: Switch
Release Date: Available Now
Price: $79.99 – Available Here

Overview

As we move forward into new generations of gaming, audiences are becoming more demanding of getting their old favorites on new platforms. Being a DS/3DS favorite, the Etrian Odyssey franchise is no new exception to that rule, with many poking at Atlus over the years to see the original trilogy see a re-release on modern consoles. Etrian Odyssey Origins Collection is the answer to that, bringing a remastered treatment to each title, at a rather premium price. Is this trek worth the revisit? Let’s find out.

Story

If I had to start with any warning of this franchise, it would be not to go into it wanting a deep, interesting story – as this set of titles mainly rely on gameplay. That doesn’t mean there isn’t a plot, however. In Etrian Odyssey HD, players simply set out to explore a mysterious place known as the Yggdrasil Labyrinth, located near Etria. The story is really just to keep going downward as new plot-points unfold, with a slightly interesting tale emerging as you progress. Etrian Odyssey II HD has the player set out with a set of explorers to go through this vast labyrinth yet again, with new areas, enemies, and so on along the way. Part III takes place in Armoroad, which hosts new locales as a great earthquake has opened up yet another labyrinth – begging to be explored yet again.

You get the idea? I can say as much as I love the Etrian games, they have never been something for their story, as the plot is simply to discover new faces and places by mapping into the unknown. There is a rich satisfaction to that in and of itself, and narrative takes a backseat as even after spending hours within each title yet again, I still feel rather disattached to any “main hero” or villain you would typically see in most RPGs.

Gameplay

Yes, this is where the heartbeat lies, as it really is all about exploring in a first-person perspective, equipping your squad for victory, and relying on your mapping tool to not get lost in the process. On the Nintendo DS versions of this trilogy, players had to rely on the bottom screen homing their map, where they would draw out locations and mark important areas so they could properly progress forward. All is mostly the same here, but the Switch is now implemented, making it mostly a one-screened affair.

I will admit, the thought of not having two screens seemed like it would making adventuring more cumbersome, but the platform seems to have been perfectly optimized, with players utilizing the touchscreen and button controls to map on the same screen as they progress and explore. Sure, it takes time to dive in and this game isn’t fancy on tutorials – so one will have to have patience while learning the control format, but I felt at home a lot quicker than expected, and many new options have been implemented to make this franchise more accessible to newcomers. Almost every part of your experience can be customized based on your own comfort, and for a Switch port, it is refreshing to see so much attention to detail that was added for these versions.

Sometimes, more options can actually be a hindrance as auto-mapping and even viewing the world as fully explored are available, which can feel like a crutch, sitting there inches away, begging to be used. For a game that relies on its difficulty and the player’s own abilities to successfully map out the world, I don’t know if adding more ease in that way was something that should be available. It almost feels like you are erasing the point of the game. Sure, its always optional, but a very odd addition that kind of comes of as questionable for the overall package. Either way, all three titles can keep one going for hundreds of hours, and the satisfying combat choices and large focus on upgrades and leveling will keep one entertained, as this trilogy works great and is as addictive as ever before.

Visuals

The art style is fantastic in all three Etrian titles as each have never looked better, with more crisp character models and better looking textures and environments, making this “HD” remake live up to its name. Like msot remakes, the text looks a bit out of place, but there are options to alter that, so most should be able to customize it further with a bit of work with the settings within the game.

Audio

The soundtracks are also fantastic, with wonderful tunes that capture a lot of dim atmosphere in order to give the player a sense of urgency and dread. I do think more work could have been added for voices at times as they can sound a bit bland, but alas, since story is not very important, most shouldn’t have any issues with what is offered within this package.

Overall

Etrian Odyssey Origins Collection is not for everyone, and that’s ok. This bundle was made for that niche audience that crave these unique titles, and Atlus did a great job optimizing them for a more modern experience. There is still a question of value as the price runs a bit on the high end, but those who are willing to make the plunge are sure to find value in the quality of life improvements found within each HD entry. I for one think we need more HD remakes done with this much care, as high price or not, the Etrian Odyssey franchise feels a lot safer in terms of preservation and future thanks to the release of this collection to the Switch.
