Mexican Folklore, Sidescrolling Mayhem, and Retro Graphics: Dark Adelitato Release on Steam on May 5

Grab a rifle and fight for your soul as an ancient enemy stirs in revolutionary Mexico

[Mexico] – April 7, 2026 – To arms! Brain-dead Rabbit Games and indie.io are delighted to announce the imminent release of Dark Adelita on Steam on May 5, 2026! As Angela, a veteran of the revolutionary struggle, players embark on a dark journey through Mexican states. The fast-paced, sidescrolling shooter pits Angela against hordes of enemies under the control of a dark power from ancient Mexican myths. Armed with her trusted rifle and fast reflexes, she will have to run, jump, and shoot through fast-paced stages!

The path will not be easy. It’s 1918, and the Mexican Revolution is coming to an end after years of bitter fighting. As change sweeps across the suffering land, however, an ancient evil awakens. Feeding on the fears and suffering of a devastated people, it brings creatures straight from Mexican legends to life. Blight and darkness spread across the land – and only one, a brave adelita called Angela, can face the darkness. With a rifle in hand, she sets out on a path that will test her physical strength and mental endurance…

Players take part in this journey through polished, fast-paced gameplay. Always outnumbered and outgunned, they will have to rely on her speed and agility to dodge enemy bullets, as one shot is all it takes to knock her down. Armed with her trusty rifle and a plethora of other weapons, together with special abilities, and sheer determination, she faces a seemingly impossible task where every encounter is a high-stakes challenge to players’ reflexes – and that’s just the beginning.

As she journeys deeper into the nightmarish world unleashed by the foe she pursues, Angela finds herself fighting for her very soul: The wails carried by the wind turn blood into ice, shadows lurk around every corner, and creatures of folk and legend come to life only to attack with unimaginable ferocity.

Every aspect of the game is rooted in Mexican culture and history. “Our hope is to deliver a fun game with a unique theme, showcasing what makes Mexico and our culture special,” remarked Ricardo Reyes, lead programmer and pixel artist responsible for the game’s distinct visual identity.

Eager to take up arms? Get ready: Dark Adelita releases on Steam on May 5, 2026!

About Call of the Elder Gods

Journey to the far corners of the Earth and unearth ancient horrors in this Lovecraftian narrative puzzle adventure and sequel to 2020’s critically acclaimed Call of the Sea.

All is not well at Miskatonic University. Professor Harry Everhart tries to ignore the shadows flitting at the corners of his vision, while student Evangeline Drayton is haunted with impossible dreams of an artifact uncovered a decade ago. In their search for answers, the pair will uncover revelations more ancient than anyone could have imagined.

Shocking Secrets

Build, Expand, and Survive the Middle Ages: City States: Medieval to release  on April 20, 2026

Lead a city-state to prosperity through cunning, commerce, and heroes in a hybrid strategy game

[Toronto, Canada] – April 7, 2026 – Reverie World Studios and indie.io are proud to announce that the latest in a long lineage of hybrid strategy games, City States: Medieval, will release into Early Access on Steam on April 20, 2026. As city-state leaders, players navigate the complex political and economic landscape of Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East. Aided by heroic leaders, they will have to master commerce, diplomacy, and, when necessary, warfare to prevail… Or fade into obscurity.

The vibrant 12th century provides a backdrop for rewriting the history of some of the most prominent city-states of the era during the last of the medieval renaissances. As science, arts, and culture experience a revival thanks to the influx of classical works preserved in Middle Eastern cities, the growing power of kingdoms and religious strife create a fertile ground for conflicts from the Atlantic to the Urals—and incredible opportunities for trade and commerce.

Players take control of one of the city-states that rose to prominence thanks to their strategic location in the middle of these trade routes. From Novgorod in the frigid Rus, through the affluent Italian Genoa, to the arid Tripoli in Syria, each is an economic engine that can provide incredible wealth through careful planning and defense of trade routes devoted to twelve distinct trading goods, from silk to spices.

However, wealth attracts predators, and eventually, players will have to defend their claims. The engaging real-time strategy combat known from previous Reverie World Studios titles has been refined further, combining it with elements of tower defense to represent the dramatic sieges of cities from the Middle Ages. At the frontlines of both combat and diplomacy will be heroes, great leaders known from the pages of history who lead the city-states and represent the player’s own power and influence.

Their presence grants players full control over their city, its territories, and armies, as well as providing powerful bonuses. Conversely, whenever they are away, players only have a limited ability to issue commands, and the city-state is forced to make do with a maintenance government in their hero’s absence.

The mechanic requires a completely different strategic approach, forcing players to carefully weigh their options and turning every expansion into a high-risk, high-reward venture. The leader’s presence can tip the scales and force even great powers to bargain with the player’s city-state… Or leave it vulnerable to an invasion while the hero is tied up in distant lands.

High Middle Ages, high risk, high stakes in a unique hybrid real-time strategy game: Lead a city-state to victory in City States: Medieval on April 20, 2026!

About Wise Monkey Entertainment

Gareth Owens (the game’s creator) started out at 12 years old as a freelance script writer for the Film Industry whilst lying about his age, before becoming an Escape Room designer for the best interactive experiences in London. With two police detective parents and old comedy cassettes to inspire him, he turned his creative efforts to Mystery and Detective fiction. Thanks to a love for video games and the Film Industry feeling “doomed by streaming”, Gareth began learning to make games. Many years later, his debut release is coming soon with the help of a very small remote team of industry professionals and worldwide artists.
