From a mobile ragdoll simulator to a massive, creator-driven ecosystem with over 150 million downloads globally, this anniversary marks half a decade of continuous updates that encourage the community to experiment, play, and dream big.
Pure Sandbox Chaos
Melon Sandbox began as an experience designed for pure creative freedom and interactive destruction. On this foundation, the development team has been able to build bigger. Now, Melon Sandbox features over a dozen maps, including the moon, acid pits, and lava pits. The roster of beloved characters–known in-game as Livings–expands beyond the original Melon to include robots, skeletons, and a variety of inspired sprites. The catalog of interactable items has grown, as well, and includes an array of weapons, mechanical devices, and programmable chips to fully play out any chaotic scenario.
Sharing Is Caring
The game’s Workshop debuted in 2023, adding expanded mod-sharing tools, in-game asset browsing, and custom item creation tools to encourage players to think outside the box and share their content with the world.
Players can monetize this content within the Workshop through User-Generated Content (UGC) integrations. In 2025 alone, players collectively earned over $1M USD for their original content. The platform continues to host over 55,000 creators and more than 92,000 original works, making Melon Sandbox one of the most significant UGC cash-out systems in mobile gaming.
More and More Ways to Play
Melon Sandbox is continuing to grow into 2026 and beyond. In addition to new maps, new items, and community events, this year introduced a powerful new tool to empower players to do more: the Lua Chip. Bridging the gap between visual logic and text-based game development, the Lua Chip allows creators to write and inject custom Lua scripts directly into their contraptions. Players now have full programmatic control over their creations, and PlayDucky is excited to see what they do with these mechanics as Melon Sandbox continues to grow.
