Kitten Space Agency debuts first look teaser video and soars past $200K contribution milestone
AUCKLAND, New Zealand – July 23, 2026 – It’s a celebratory time for Kitten Space Agency, the next giant leap for spaceflight gaming from award-winning development studio RocketWerkz.
The game received the NZX Most Innovative Hi-Tech Creative Technology Solution at the 2026 New Zealand Hi-Tech Awards, becoming the first video game to receive a Hi-Tech Award. The win recognises the project’s technical ambition, community-driven development model, and educational mission.
Additionally, it has now surpassed $200,000 USD in community contributions on Ahwoo and RocketWerkz launched its First Look Teaser video, captured from real-time pre-alpha gameplay. Kitten Space Agency is free to download on Ahwoo, with optional contributions allowing players to support development directly. The free spaceflight simulation game aims to make real-world orbital mechanics, rocketry, and spacecraft systems accessible to everyone.
While community contributions currently cover around 2% of RocketWerkz’s total real-world development costs for Kitten Space Agency, they represent a healthy foundation for a project at its present stage. Those costs include not only the dedicated Kitten Space Agency team but also RocketWerkz’s Enterprise team, who are developing BRUTAL, the underlying framework that powers the game.
To achieve the scale and accuracy required for true space simulation, RocketWerkz engineered BRUTAL as its proprietary framework. Kitten Space Agency simultaneously simulates Kepler planetary dynamics and Newtonian physics across an entire solar system, allowing players to design intricate vehicles, simulate propulsion, plan long-duration trajectories, and execute precise orbital manoeuvres.
Development on Kitten Space Agency has been actively underway since mid-2024, with public pre-alpha build releases launching in November 2025. While the project is still in early pre-alpha, RocketWerkz has focused heavily on building the core fundamentals needed to support the game long-term, including orbital mechanics, spacecraft systems, vehicle simulation, modding, and large-scale space simulation.
“KSA is being built from the ground up, not only by our talented in-house team, but through the feedback and support of its passionate contributors,” said Dean Hall, CEO, RocketWerkz. “It represents a huge technical and community effort for the studio. We’re building the foundations carefully, working in public, and giving players the chance to be part of the project from the very beginning.”
Kitten Space Agency’s pre-alpha build is available to play now on Ahwoo. Support the mission by joining the developers on Discord, Reddit, and Ahwoo. Follow the team on X, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Twitch, and YouTube.
