Dark Awakening update brings new modes, car parts and weapons

Gaijin Entertainment announces the release of “Dark Awakening”, a new major content update for the post-apocalyptic online action game Crossout. The update introduces Eclipse, a new high-tech faction made up of former humans from elite military and special forces units who have transformed themselves into robotic war machines. They have retained their minds and free will, but now serve as the ultimate defense system of the Oracle, an artificial intelligence antagonist whose safety they protect by destroying any possible threat.

Eclipse specializes in stealth attacks, ambushes and weakening enemies before the decisive strike. Their signature mechanic, Corrosion allows players to create weak spots on enemy vehicles or even deliberately redistribute damage across their own armor to protect critical components. The new season brings a range of faction-themed parts built around this idea, including the Wayfarer frontal wheel with a sharp side dash, the retractable Extremum shotgun, the dual-mode Vendetta turret cannon, the invisibility-focused Exodus shuriken launcher, the Ark cabin with a combat drone, and the Shroud module, which can temporarily weaken the player’s own connected parts.

The update also adds several limited-time brawls. Test Prototypes lets players try preset vehicles equipped with new season parts, while Squad Battle throws three teams of four into a Mexican standoff that becomes deadlier as a sandstorm reduces the playable area. Contract challenges four players to hunt assigned targets while hiding among their own doppelgangers, and Short Circuit pits attackers against defenders fighting over three generators.

The update also includes sound improvements, a new main theme for the season, improvements to lighting and shadows, and balance changes largely inspired by player feedback.
