Change the balance of battle with “Gems” and “Turning Points”!
Hertfordshire, 13th November 2025 – Today, KOEI TECMO Europe and developer Kou Shibusawa have revealed further information about the renowned the ROMANCE OF THE THREE KINGDOMS series’ 40th anniversary commemorative title, ROMANCE OF THE THREE KINGDOMS 8 REMAKE: Destiny and Strategy Expansion Pack Bundle. Details about two brand-new features, “Gems” and “Turning Points”, which allows players to change the tide of battle in previously unprecedented ways, have been unveiled. The bundle is scheduled to release 29th January 2026 on Windows PC via Steam®.
Players will gain the ability to increase abilities or obtain new commands by unlocking “Gems”, allowing their officer to progress in unique ways. The types of Gems vary according to status. New Gems can be unlocked alongside changes in status, broadening the scope of players’ abilities. Status-related Gems such as Liaise, which allow governors to deepen relationships among subordinates, or Foresight, which allow tacticians to command officers to “act” a second time, will allow fans to enhance their personal ROMANCE OF THE THREE KINGDOMS experience.
Additionally, the new “Turning Points” feature will enable players to completely upheave the battlefield by increasing the probability of Opportunities arising, in response to time passing, or in reaction to the movement of other forces. Battle situations may shift dramatically when Turning Points are activated, such as Decisive Battles, where several units from different cities march into battle simultaneously. When specific conditions are fulfilled, a Chance that triggers a particular Turning Point will be activated, allowing for a more upgraded tactical experience. Nevertheless, it may not always be possible to predict which Turning Point will be triggered, meaning that players will have to demonstrate skill when choosing which Turning Point to aim for and prepare countermeasures accordingly.
Players who purchase a digital edition of ROMANCE OF THE THREE KINGDOMS 8 REMAKE: Destiny and Strategy Expansion Pack Bundle up to the first two weeks after release will receive the “Loyal Han Retainer Ma Teng” scenario as an early purchase bonus. Those who digitally pre-order the game will also receive the “Guan Yu Advances” scenario as a pre-order bonus.
ROMANCE OF THE THREE KINGDOMS 8 REMAKE: Destiny and Strategy Expansion Pack Bundle is currently in development and is scheduled to release digitally on 29th January 2026 on Windows PC via Steam®. The game will include Japanese and Chinese voices with English texts only.

Combats in ROMANCE OF THE THREE KINGDOMS 8 REMAKE remained turn-based, just like the original title, while featuring a completely restructured system, the result of Kou Shibusawa’s 20 years of know how since the release of Romance of the Three Kingdoms VIII to offer an easy-to-play yet highly tactical combat experience.
