Yesterday the PlayStation 4 was announced by Sony and alongside various announcements for the new console, fans of Sony’s products were keeping an eye out for one more bit of news… a price drop for the PlayStation Vita in the West. You see, it was previously revealed only a few days ago that the Vita would be discounted roughly $50 in Japan, but Sony had not mentioned anything about the West.
Now, speaking with Joystiq, Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida is saying that the exchange rate is the reason why Japan is getting a discount while North Americans and everyone else doesn’t deserve one. Simple and clear cut and it seems that the Vita will remain priced at $250-$300 along with the extremely overpriced memory cards that cost as much as 30% of the console itself simply to get your foot in the door.
