Animatsu Entertainment has announced that it has acquired the global distribution rights to the upcoming anime film In This Corner of the World (この世界の片隅に Kono Sekai no Katasumi ni). Animatsu screened at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival and Market to buyers. The film is described as follows:
In This Corner of the World tells the story of the adolescent Suzu, who in 1944 moves to the small town of Kure in Hiroshima to live with her husband’s family. Suzu’s life is thrown into chaos when her town is bombed during World War II. Her perseverance and courage, however, underpin this heart-warming and inspirational tale of the everyday challenges faced by the Japanese in the midst of a violent, war-torn country.
The film is produced by GENCO, with MAPPA handling the animation production. Sunao Katabuchi directed the film. He has worked closely with Hayao Miyazaki and has directed projects himself, including the film Mai Mai Miracle. In This Corner of the World is based on the award-winning manga by Fumiyo Kouno. It will be released in Japan in October.
