Madman Entertainment Acquires Rights to ‘Mary and the Witch’s Flower’

Madman Entertainment announced today that they have acquired the rights to release the first feature film by Studio Ponoc, Mary and the Witch’s Flower, in Australia and New Zealand. It is directed by Hiromasa Yonebayashi and produced by Yoshiaki Nishimura. The two previously worked together on what may be Studio Ghibli’s final feature film, When Marnie Was There, and later co-founded Studio Ponoc. A trailer for the upcoming film is featured below.

The film is currently in post-production. The screenplay was written by Riko Sakaguchi (The Tale of the Princess Kaguya) with Hiromasa Yonebayashi. It is adapted from Mary Stewart’s novel The Little Broomstick. The release date for the film has not yet been determined.
