Newest Version Launches with Five HTML5 Games – PenPals, Sky Tumble & 3 Classic Games;

Latest Update Also Lets Users Send Text Messages within Video Conversations

TEL AVIV (May 8, 2013) – Rounds ( launched the latest version of its popular Rounds Video Chat Hangout mobile app for iOS and Android today, becoming the first hangout network to bring mobile gaming inside live video conversations.

Building on its signature characteristic of providing online entertainment and fun activities to teens during live video communication, five new HTML5 games now join Rounds’ other interactive features, including watching YouTube videos together, adding Instagram-like effects and scribbling over each other’s live video streams, uploading photos for joint viewing across devices, and changing view modes.

Over half of all video conversations on Rounds average eleven minutes in length, demonstrating the company’s success providing users the tools to have longer and more meaningful video conversations with their friends and family.  The hangout network is increasingly popular with teens, which now make up over 2.5 million of all users.

Rounds is meant to mirror hanging out in real life, where teens spend time doing stuff together” said Rounds CEO and co-founder Dany Fishel.  “By allowing Rounds users to play games during live video conversations, we’re not only giving them another activity to do, we’re also giving them something else to talk about and another way to have fun and interact together.  It’s the reason our users continue to have both longer and more meaningful conversations.”

Users see each other’s live video streams in thumbnail form during game play, allowing their live reactions to heighten the hangout experience.  The first five games available to Rounds mobile users include:

  • PenPals – Similar to Zynga’s Draw Something, but with both users drawing and guessing at the same time, adding a layer of urgency to the experience.  Developed by Guerillapps using Rounds’ API.

  • Sky Tumble – A Tetris-like game with both users playing simultaneously, seeing a real-time measuring stick of how high their chat partner has built their blocks – another example where live game play during video chatting adds to the excitement.  Developed by Lior Paz using Rounds’ API.

  • Classic Games – Users can play classic board games of checkers, chess and backgammon during live video chats.  Developed by CodeHeads using Rounds’ API.

Rounds’ API currently offers game developers their only way to design HTML5 games, synchronized between users in the real-time experience of a live, mobile video chat environment.

Today’s update also includes the ability to text chat and video chat at the same time, as well as various technological improvements, improving the app’s stability.  Users are also now able to easily invite groups of friends to the app – like all their school friends, family members, or teammates – making it simpler to arrange hangouts with the people teens care most about.

Rounds Video Chat Hangout is available as a free download in both the iTunes App Store and Google Play, or directly via  New features are expected to be added regularly throughout summer 2013.
