The hottest digital game store on PC might soon be in the palm of your hand if all goes to plan. A small startup company is looking to bring Steam in to the portable environment with the idea of the SteamBoy. In an obvious nod to Nintendo’s GameBoy, the SteamBoy is touted to be able to play the majority of games available on the digital store. The developers behind the portable machine have said the console will run SteamOS and feature a Quad-Core CPU, 4GB RAM, 32GB built-in memory and a 5-inch 16:9 touchscreen in addition to Wi-Fi and Cellular Data connectivity for online features.
Steam is loved for it’s great sales on digital titles and large amount of content from AAA commercial games like Grand Theft Auto V to critically acclaimed Indie titles, mods and free to play games like Team Fortress 2. It is important to note that this device is in no way associated with Valve or their announced Steam Machine and will not be as powerful, mostly due to the limitations of being a portable device such as battery life. This console is being created by a small startup company, however at the time of writing we could not find a Kickstarter campaign or anything similar, so it is assumed the company is banking on the project being a success and is funding it themselves. You can view the teaser for the devices prototype below.
