Assassin’s Creed Revelations Review

The game’s story mode itself weighs in at roughly 15-20 hours in length, excluding all the extra side quests, meta-games and goings on around the city of Constantinople. You will be coming back for more, with all the hours of fun packed into this title. Not only that but the fun expands even further when you take the online multiplayer into account.

Multiplayer was first implemented in Brotherhood to much critical acclaim. It returns here, with a sparkling layer of polish. Ubisoft have taken the pre-existing multiplayer mode from Brotherhood and perfected it. Not only is it one hell of a multiplayer mode, it is far and away the best multiplayer experience this year. There is nothing like it on the market. It is a wholy unique experience that no other game has replicated.

If anything the multiplayer mode could quite easily challenge some of the more obvious choices for you to spend your online time with such as Modern Warfare 3 and Battlefield 3. But if you are looking for a change of pace or just something that requires more thought than “run and shoot this person”, Assassin’s Creed Revelations has you covered. The multiplayer mode is not only deep, but it also provides a serious contender to the big multiplayer blockbusters of the year with it’s very different gameplay approach and style. It could definitely be a dark horse for online players looking for something fresh.

All in all, Assassin’s Creed Revelations provides the most pure polished gameplay experience this year. To reiterate my earlier sentiments, there is absolutely nothing like Revelations. If you are tired of playing the same old first-person shooters that have crowded the gaming market, Assassin’s Creed Revelations stands above the crowd as a shining beacon of hope for the future of gaming. It does beg the question though, “How will Ubisoft top this?”

Visuals and Audio:
Aesthetically Assassin’s Creed Revelations is a beauty to behold. The landscapes, character designs and sheer details have never graced the franchise before, marking a true leap forward for the series. There is enough gorgeous imagery here that it would be a lie to say that it isn’t artistic.

There is something about the way that Revelations paints it’s world, that begs it to be explored. From an artistic stand-point, that is an achievement in and of itself. That is not all however, Revelations breaks away from the trappings of it’s predecessors with an immense amount of variety between its locations. Even moving throughout Constantinople can show such vapid culture splashes at each corner. Constantinople is the crosswords of the world in Assassin’s Creed hence why it makes a perfect place to use such stunning imagery.

The graphics themselves are evidently an improvement upon that of Brotherhood but not so much that it creates a sense of detachment from the past of the franchise, instead it feels exactly how it should – a significant improvement upon the past titles.

Revelations soundtrack is simply astonishing. If you are a fan of good music, you will adore this game’s soundtrack, finding yourself heavily engrossed in not only the way the game mixes music with action, but the way it uses music to convey emotion. It is a truly beautiful thing to behold. And as for voice acting, Assassins Creed Revelations features some of the series best work, with there never being a moment of wooden acting, everything feels fluid and natural, as it should.

Overall:
Assassin’s Creed Revelations is an amazing game, in every sense of the word. It will be etched in history as a game that stood against the norm and took a new look at how games should be made. Ubisoft have revolutionised Assassin’s Creed here, both through the way it is played and the story it tells and the new ground it breaks not only for this series but for gaming overall.

The effect that Revelations will leave on the industry may not become apparent so quickly, but in years to come, this will be the game that developers wish they had made. This will be the game that we will look back on as not only a turning point for Assassin’s Creed but as a turning point for gaming as whole.

Assassin’s Creed Revelations is not only one of the very best games of this year, but it is also one of the best of all time. This game is proof that video-games can be art. This game is proof that video-games can tell as good a story as some of the best literary masterpieces. Assassin’s Creed Revelations is proof that nothing is true and everything is permitted.
