Melbourne Matildas defeat season underdogs Perth Panthers
16th November 2021 – The Melbourne Matildas have waltzed to victory, claiming the title of World of Tanks ANZ Premier League season three winners, after defeating the Perth Panthers at the finals on the weekend.
The season ender was hotly contested with both teams making it to the finals for the first time, having clawed their way from the bottom of the season one and two respectively.
World of Tanks ANZ Product Manager, Jake Truman, said the Ducks and Cats brought an electric energy to the finals.
“The Matildas were up 2-0 on Himmelsdorf, despite it being the map that the Perth Panthers picked. Then the Panthers were able to bring it back to 3-1 on Sand River, inflicting their first defeat of the season to the Matildas on this map.
“Despite winning the first attacking game on Murovanka with a cheeky base capture, the Panther’s couldn’t send the final to a tiebreaker. Their underdog story was dashed at the penultimate hurdle, with the Matildas proving why they were the best ANZPL team this season, taking out the grand final 4-2,” said Jake.
In addition to the glory of being the Season Three victors, the Matildas received a cash prize of AUD$10,000, seven noblechairs Hero Black edition gaming chairs and seven HyperX custom ANZPL Alloy Origins 60 keyboards.
The Panthers received a cash prize of AUD$5,000 and seven HyperX custom ANZPL Alloy Origins 60 keyboards.
The finals were streamed live on World of Tanks ANZ Twitch page and watched by 30,000 viewers.
