Jagex confirms end of October launch for Old School RuneScape on iOS and Android

Following a massively successful ‘Members Only Beta’, as well as soft launches in Canada & Nordics, Jagex confirms the MMORPG will arrive on mobile devices on 30th October.

Wednesday 5th September 2018, Cambridge, UK – Old School RuneScape will launch on iOS and Android devices on Tuesday 30th October, Jagex announced today. The MMORPG offers a full cross-platform experience on mobile and PC, and will be available for members and non-members to enjoy.

Jagex also confirmed Old School RuneScape is now available to Pre-Order and Pre-Register from the App Store and the Google Play.

The highly-anticipated announcement comes after this summer’s extensive and overwhelmingly successful ‘Members Only Beta’, in addition to soft launches in Canada and Nordic countries, which have already seen some 500,000 Android players continue their adventures on their mobile devices.

Phil Mansell, Chief Executive Officer, Jagex said:

“The RuneScape communities have long wanted the ability to play our titles on mobile, in addition to PC, so we’re delighted to announce that Old School RuneScape will be available on both iOS and Android platforms in a matter of weeks. The launch of Old School RuneScape on mobile, and our ongoing work on bringing RuneScape to those platforms, is incredibly significant to Jagex’s continued success in the coming years as we realise our ambition to become the Home of Living Games.”

Today’s announcement follows the recent launch of Jagex Partners, which will see the company deliver live game publishing and operational services tailored specifically to the needs of third-party studios. In addition to access to services including user acquisition, analytics, and digital marketing, Partner studios will also benefit from a proprietary tech platform that will integrate partner titles into Jagex’s live operations ecosystem. Both Jagex Partners and the launch of Old School RuneScape on mobile are key milestones in the company’s evolution towards becoming the Home of Living Games.

Neil McClarty, Vice President of Product Management, Jagex said:

“The development team have been working tirelessly to overcome the various challenges in bringing Old School RuneScape to mobile platforms, whether that’s ensuring the game feels as native on mobile as it does on PC or making it available on as many mobile devices as possible. That effort has paid off, we’ve received an incredible reaction from the growing section of the community who have played it during the beta tests, and we’re really excited to finally announce when Old School RuneScape will be fully available.”

Ever since a prototype of Old School RuneScape on mobile was shown at RuneFest 2017, the development team at Jagex has worked closely with the game’s community to ensure it delivers the same immersive experience, regardless of platform or device. Its top-level interface has been refined and optimised on mobile devices, including the introduction of a customisable, one-touch action button, and intuitive touch-screen controls. Featuring the RuneScape franchise’s trademark accessibility, players with devices running Lollipop (Android 5) and iOS 10 will be able to start or continue their Old School adventures across the world of Gielinor on the sofa or on the move.
