It has been announced that there will be a new Cardcaptor Sakura television anime for the first time in over 15 years. This is the 20th anniversary of CLAMP’s series. To celebrate the anniversary, they began a sequel manga series titled Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card Arc, which the new anime series is adapted from.

The anime adaptation was initially teased back in February. More details will be announced today in the January issue of Kodansha’s Nakayoshi magazine. The new story arc follows Sakura in her first year of junior high school, after she graduates from Tomoeda Elementary School. Morio Asaka, who directed the previous Cardcaptor Sakura anime will be returning to direct the new anime at Madhouse. It is scheduled to premiere in Japan in January 2018 on NHK.
