TEAM SECRET WINS THE UK’S FIRST TOUCHSCREEN TOURNAMENT: THE VAINGLORY WINTER SEASON 2016 EU CHAMPIONSHIPS

The sold out tournament took place in London’s Gfinity Arena with $25,000 up for grabs

London, UK — March 22nd, 2016 — Vainglory, the MOBA perfected for touch-screens and the leading touch screen eSport saw more than 700 competitive teams apply to compete for the Winter Season 2016 EU Championships. The top eight teams in Europe, including teams from the UK, France, Germany and Russia, competed for a share of the $25,000 prize pool this weekend with Team Secret crowned as the EU Champions, taking home $12,500.

This is the second consecutive win for Team Secret who were crowned champions of the Autumn Season 2015 EU Championships. The German team also comprises of Scottish player Alessandro “Palmatoro” Palmarini marking a notable step forward for UK eSports.

Created by Super Evil Megacorp, the game has become the “fastest growing mobile game” on Twitch in under a year since its global launch, with over 150 million minutes watched on twitch, and over $350.000 awarded in prize pools in 2015.

The Winter Season 2016 EU Championships marked a step forward for touchscreen competitive gaming and Vainglory’s  growing pro scene with top eSports organisations including SK Gaming, Team Secret and G2 eSports, taking part. The Vainglory eSports scene also includes hundreds of original teams, including home-grown teams and players, such as 28-year old “LookAtMe” from Russia, and 13-year old professional gamer, “MrKcool” from the UK.

The London event was also hosted by UK gaming celebrities including Sam “DJSAMZ” Zimmerman, Andy “Vedius” Day, pro gamer turned analyst, Xinyi and Pocketgamer’s Ric Cowley.

“This was the first touchscreen tournament in the UK and we couldn’t have asked for a better atmosphere. We are still new to eSports, this being our second ever season, but the tournament sold out and we are seeing a growth in viewers indicating a passion for touchscreen competitive gaming,” said Kristian Segerstrale, COO and Executive Director, Super Evil Megacorp. “We are always looking for ways to build Vainglory and our eSports scene together with the community. We are excited to see how far we have come in a short space of time already.”

The Winter Season 2016 NA Champions were crowned last week at the Red Bull eSports Studio, with Team SoloMid (TSM) taking the number one spot.
