RUNESCAPE COUNTS DOWN TO 15-YEAR CELEBRATIONS

New continent, Chronicle multi-platform launch, feature documentary premiere, founders’ quest and much more coming to RuneScape franchise in 2016.

Wednesday 16th December 2015, Cambridge, UK – Jagex Games Studio, creators and custodians of the fantasy MMORPG RuneScape, have today confirmed a raft of new content launching throughout 2016 to celebrate the game’s 15th anniversary. Andrew and Paul Gower, the founders of RuneScape back in 2001, are returning as guest designers for a ‘Gower Quest’, due for release in spring 2016. A new game client technology that will take RuneScape’s visuals to a new level of fidelity will also be introduced, together with four quests that conclude the epic God Wars storyline, which first started in 2013. Furthermore, Invention – a new skill – will be introduced to the game, allowing players to personalise weapons and armour, and make them more technically advanced.

Old School RuneScape will also join in the revelry, with the launch of an entire new continent, Zeah, which will be introduced in three parts throughout 2016. Old School – a retro version of the MMORPG – will also reach its three-year milestone. Furthermore, an eSports tournament using the game’s recently launched Deadman Mode will take place at the end of March 2016. Additional details on this will follow early in the New Year.

In addition to the two established titles in the franchise, 2016 will see Chronicle: RuneScape Legends commercially launched on PC, Mac, Linux and iPad.  February will see the premiere of a feature-length documentary about RuneScape, its creation, and the impact it has had on the MMORPG genre and the wider UK games industry.

“To reach this incredible 15-year anniversary milestone is astonishing for everybody working on RuneScape, especially as it continues to experience a fantastic resurgence of players. It is testament to our loyal, passionate, and growing community, that the development teams at Jagex can continue to tell new stories within the world of Gielinor,” said Phil Mansell, vice president, RuneScape. “Next year will be another big step forward for the RuneScape franchise, with exciting new features, technology and even new games across multiple platforms – 2016 will be a year to remember!”
