It was directed by Hiroshi Nishikori (Azumanga Daioh, A Certain Magical Index and Jyo-Oh-Sei). Sentai Filmworks describes the series as follows:
Misaki Suzuhara discovers the unparalleled excitement of Angelic Layer, a high-tech game in which dolls called Angels are controlled by the thoughts of their operator. With slapstick support by game guide Ichiro “Icchan” Mihara and his unfortunate assistant Ogata, and the intensive character development and design that CLAMP is famous for, Angelic Layer is a must-have title for any anime fan’s collection.
