Problem Children Are Coming From Another World

Problem Children Are Coming From Another World-Badge-WINTERWinter 2013 was a season that a lot of people found disappointing due to its high volume of romcoms and not much else of worth. Personally, this was not a problem because I was hyped for Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai NEXT and I had high hopes for Tamako Market (Foolishly, I might add). I watched so many romcoms that the winner of this category actually went completely under my radar and I didn’t watch it until well into the spring season. When I did find it though, I was blown away by just how much better it was than its constituent parts.

What is essentially just another shōnen comedy about kids appearing in another world and having to help out the first people they encounter turned out be infinitely more intelligent and well executed than I could have ever imagined. It boasts a strong cast of characters that refuse to be bound by generics; a vibrant, sprawling world with infinite possibility for exploration; and writing that blows you away with action one second and then drives you mad with laughter the next. Going far beyond the call of a comedy and never bogging you down with action, ‘Problem Children Are Coming From Another World’ is easily one of the best series of 2013 and is definitely worth your attention. – James Mapley
