Danganronpa: The Animation is an upcoming anime series based upon Spike Chunsoft’s game, with the much longer title, Danganronpa Kibō no Gakuen to Zetsubō no Kōkōsei (Danganronpa: Academy of Hope and High School Students of Despair). The series is an adaptation of the visual novel game, with Seiji Kishi (the director of Persona 4 The Animation) attached to the project along with the original cast from the game.
The series itself will focus on a group of high school students, each with an exceptional talent, who are trapped in their school by the sadistic Monobear, a half black half white toy bear. The students are only allowed to leave if they can pull of the perfect murder, murdering a fellow schoolmate and not getting caught, though succeeding results in the death of every other student. After each murder, the students hold a trial and, if they deduce correctly, the killer is gruesomely murdered themself, the system continuing until everyone is dead or one escapes.
The anime will premiere in Japan in July. In the meantime check out the trailer below.
