CC Screen: Dexter 07×02 Recap “Fort Knox à la Deb”

Oh hey, Dexter is lying again. He’s trying to figure out how to get into Louis’ apartment to confront his creepy stalkery IT ass, but of course doesn’t share this information with Deb. She continues to be super sweet and supportive, but this time he’s a bit more annoyed because it gets in the way of his stalking the stalker.

To try and get away from Deb’s watchful eye Dexter swaps places with Masuka to go help out with Wayne Randall. And hey, great timing because Deb is called away for a break in the Andersen case as they find out Viktor is a prime suspect. Dexter starts chatting to Wayne Randall about his sudden change of heart, and he’s clearly doing his usual thing where he identifies with other killers and uses their lessons and mistakes to help himself.

They break for lunch and Dexter breaks into Louis’ apartment to find out why he’s messing with him. Turns out Louis has some serious rage issues, as well as way too much skill with a computer. (And a Razer logo background, boy he does love Razer doesn’t he?) Dexter roughs him up a bit and Louis admits that he’s hating on Dexter because Dexter dismissed his video game. Dexter’s reaction is, understandably aggravated, he threatens Louis and leaves.

He gets back to the Wayne Randall site to have Deb riding his ass about where he’s been (understandable, given her imposed lock down on him). Randall overhears and misunderstands that they’re together (hey remember that story line?) and they have a nice little D’n’M about surrendering to being imprisoned – giving Dexter the idea that maybe it wouldn’t be that bad to be under Deb’s thumb.

Back at the strip club, Rich Guy from Ukraine has come to America to try and find Viktor. Yeah there’s something else that may end badly for Dexter. Groups called the ‘brotherhood’ aren’t known for letting people off easy.

At Dexter’s apartment Louis happens to have forgotten about Dexter’s threat and seems quite at home hanging out in his apartment, kissing Baby Batista, and patting Harrison on the head. Tempting a serial killer? Never a good idea. But I for one wouldn’t mind seeing his smarmy face hit a bit.

Quinn gives his new stripper buddy a ride home from the club, gets all flirty with her, and has her ask him to pay off her car’s repairs. Quinn seems to have kept up with his terrible taste in women, and it looks like he’s going to get fleeced for some money.

Dinner is being served at Fort Knox, which Dexter uses to drug Debra, just a bit, so that he can sneak out and go to Louis’ apartment. Now, I have no love for this guy, but he doesn’t fit Dexter’s code so I don’t really understand why Dexter has decided this is the best way to deal with the situation.

He ends up calling Deb, who is struggling out of her drug-induced deep sleep. She turns up, doesn’t seem to fazed that he broke out, and talks him down from his ledge. I mean sure, it’s not a very high ledge given Louis’ lack of adherence to the code, but he seems to be helped by talked to her. So, instead of killing Louis he dumps him on a bench and drives off. I’m sure this will help Louis with his rage issues.

As Deb and Dexter talk over the night before at work the next day she seems really pleased and actually happy about things – even optimistic that Dexter might be on the path to recovery. He’s a little more tentative about the whole thing, but there’s a ray of hope in there.

That is, until Randall – the killer who Dexter is relating to – runs headlong into a truck. Turns out the whole thing was a lie so that he could commit suicide by truck in the sunshine. This sends Dexter into a tailspin and suddenly his hope about Deb is far murkier than before.

Next time on Dexter: Dexter and Debra go through a rough patch, Yvonne Strahovski shows up as Randall’s ex and Dexter get’s all flustered by it (as most would be), and Rich Brotherhood Leader continues investigating the death of Viktor.
